Overview
The F3 range has evolved gradually, the latest update coming under the pressure of Euro4. The 675 thus receives a whole series of small improvements - an updated engine management system, revised clutch control, technical modifications affecting the cylinder head, distribution, exhaust and gearbox – without any loss of power or weight gain. With Yamaha, MV-Agusta is the only manufacturer still believing in the potential of Supersports. All the others have thrown in the towel, waiting for better days. A pity, because a hysterical 600 remains a particularly fun track bike to ride. And ready to seduce young motorcyclists. A version restricted to A2 is available since May 2018. To comply with regulations, this version is limited to 95 hp: a sine qua non condition to install the restriction to 47.5 horsepower.
Superb, aggressive, the F3 is truly an MV, retaining the stylistic codes established by the F4. It seems more rebellious, more compact, more playful, almost more vicious. Despite the floor-price policy that the Varese factory wants to apply, the machine is equipped with a superb monobras and a steel trellis frame connected to lateral plates – it’s beautiful, it’s stiff as desired, but it requires a significant financial effort on the part of MV. Where will the factory be able to save money? By putting a cheap bowl to make the exhaust pipe? No; even there, it’s pleasant to see. To identify with the number of cylinders in the engine, the exhaust is expelled by 3 lateral flutes whose beveling follows the shape of the wheel. By removing the rear fairing, you will enjoy an extraordinarily airy seat. Still so strong these Italians on design.
Its 3-cylinder engine, we have been talking about it for a long time. And we never tire of dreaming about these pretensions. Let me remind you that the cylinder head is the same size as an A4 page. Small, but very robust. The engine produced 144 horsepower in the ORO version and more than 15,000 rpm of regime. It is an absolutely superb performance for an engine of this type, almost equivalent to a 750 four-cylinder. The 675 cm3 English engine from the former Triumph Daytona developed 128 horsepower – that gives you an idea of the work of the transalpine engine specialists. But on this production version, we only find 128 hp, the same score as the English one. The Ride-by-wire throttle induces advanced electronics and more finesse at throttle opening. The F3 is equipped with traction control and multiple injection maps. And since 2014, the EAS quickshifter has been part of the equipment. After becoming widespread on 4-cylinder models, ABS invaded the Tre Pistoni range in 2014. The Bosch control unit, 9MP version, is intended to be very small, very light, and is also disconnectable. The F3 has two modes: Normal for road use, Race for a muscular use.
On the F4 1000, the front end is impressive by its characteristics. That of the F3 seems closer to the standard of current sportbikes, therefore robust: an inverted fork of 43 mm equipped with radial Brembo 4-piston calipers. The discs are serious, very serious, with a diameter of 320 mm. This honed terror is sharpening its weapons and will not show mercy.
