Overview
Four years after its impactful introduction, the Ducati Panigale V4 hasn’t aged a bit. For 2021, Bologna primarily carried out discreet housekeeping dictated by Euro5: a lambda sensor per cylinder, more generous catalysts, and a few tweaks to the intake trumpets. As a result, the 998 cm3 Desmosedici Stradale V4 retains its 214 horsepower at 11,500 rpm and its 112 Nm of torque, the latter now available 500 rpm earlier. The emissions standard met a red wall, and it was the wall that gave way.

What immediately strikes you about the Ducati Panigale V4 2021 is the coherence of the machine. The aluminum beam frame uses the engine as a structural element, a choice that brings the dry weight to 172 kilograms and 193 kilograms fully fueled. For an inline-four hypersportive, this is a score that forces competitors to look at their own figures with discomfort. The Yamaha R1 plays in the same weight class, but it turns 14 horsepower down on the Ducati. The Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory, which Noale built specifically to respond to this Bolognese missile, remains the most serious Italian rival, but it carries a few extra kilograms at comparable configuration. On the Ducati Panigale V4 technical specification sheet, the power-to-weight ratio exceeds one horsepower per kilogram. This is data that doesn’t lie, unlike marketing brochures.
The Öhlins suspension, 43 mm fork and fully adjustable rear shock, have been recalibrated rather than replaced. The fork drops 4 mm, the rear shock shortens by 2 mm, the center of gravity rises slightly. On paper this seems surgical; on the track, it translates to a more direct turn-in without sacrificing braking stability. The monocoque aluminum swingarm on the right side and the Brembo Stylema calipers on 330 mm discs at the front complete a package that few road machines can boast of equaling. The announced top speed of 300 km/h is not an absurd selling point; it’s simply what 214 horsepower in 172 kilograms produces when the road is long and straight.

The electronic arsenal of the Panigale V4 2021 receives two notable evolutions. Traction control DTC goes up to version EVO 2 with enhanced predictive capability based on the slip rate variation, and the bidirectional quickshifter DQS follows the same upgrade. The rest of the armada remains in place: active cornering ABS, drift control DSC, anti-wheelie DWC, three-level launch control DPL. Race A and B modes make their appearance this year, B reducing torque on the first three gears for technical circuits or degraded surfaces. This is a real differentiation, not a marketing gimmick. The 830 mm seat makes no concessions to short riders, and that’s not a flaw on a machine designed for the track.

The price of the Ducati Panigale V4 is set at 23,590 euros for the standard version, which positions Bologna above the R1 and the CBR 1000 RR-R but below the Ducati Panigale V4 S with its semi-active Öhlins and forged wheels. For those looking higher, the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 and the Ducati Panigale V4 Superleggera constitute the next rungs, with prices that cross the pain threshold without mercy. The used market remains a credible alternative for those looking for a used Ducati Panigale V4 in good condition, the mechanics being known for their solidity when maintenance is followed. This V4 remains a machine intended for riders who know where they are going, physically and technically. For a beginner, it would be entrusting a Formula 3 to someone coming from a driver's license. For a confirmed track rider, it is probably the best-balanced Superbike in the segment.
