Overview
When Giulio Fabbri, head of product development at Ducati, states that the Panigale V4 S is nothing more than a race bike homologated for the road, he is not trying to be provocative. He is simply describing what the technical specifications confirm line by line. 215.5 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, 123.6 Nm of torque at 9,500 rpm, 174 kg dry weight for a power-to-weight ratio of 0.90 kg/hp. Figures that leave nothing to be desired compared to a Superbike prototype, and which place the Ducati Panigale V4 S in a category of its own, far ahead of a Kawasaki ZX-10R or a Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, already formidable.

Appearing in 2018, the Panigale V4 has undergone two major cycles of evolution before arriving at the 2022 model year, which Ducati presents as the most profound revision since launch. This is not merely a cosmetic operation. The 1103 cm3 Desmosedici Stradale V4 has been reworked throughout: new oil pump, revised lubrication circuit, updated engine mapping, and especially a six-speed gearbox with modified ratios on the first, second, and sixth gears. The bidirectional shifter gains precision thanks to a completely redesigned calibration. On the road and on the track, these adjustments are felt more than they are read. And for those looking for a used Ducati Panigale V4 S from previous model years, know that this work on the transmission marks a real break with earlier versions.
Aerodynamics also deserves attention. The side fairings, clearly visible since the 2020 version, have been redesigned for 2022: more compact, but also more efficient, they still generate 37 kg of vertical downforce at 300 km/h. This figure, combined with a wheelbase of 1,469 mm and the counter-rotating crankshaft which cancels out part of the gyroscopic effect, explains why the bike remains manageable where other machines of this power become nervous. The seat and ergonomics have also been revised to reduce fatigue in the track position, with a reworked fuel tank in the crotch area to better anchor the rider's thighs.

The Ducati Panigale V4 S Corse represents the top of the range, but even in the base S version at 29,890 euros, the electronic arsenal is astonishing. Cornering ABS Bosch EVO, traction control DTC EVO 3, wheelie control, launch control, bidirectional quickshifter DQS EVO 2, adjustable engine braking, semi-active Öhlins NPX 25/30 front suspensions and TTX36 rear suspensions managed by the Smart EC 2.0 event mode system. Four programmable riding modes, a 5-inch TFT dashboard with the new Track EVO mode. Brembo Stylema M4.30 monoblock calipers and 330 mm discs do the rest. It is a technical platform that is closer to a competition tool than to a production sportbike.

The target audience is clearly identified: experienced riders, accustomed to the track, capable of taking advantage of this sophistication without being overwhelmed. The seat height of 850 mm and the very aggressive riding position immediately exclude beginners. For the driver who alternates weekends on the track and road trips, the Ducati Panigale V4 S 2022 is undoubtedly the most coherent proposition on the market. It is not perfect; the announced consumption of 7.6 l/100 km and the fuel tank of only 16 liters impose frequent stops in sporty use. But in its category, few machines offer such continuity between the track and the road, without disguised compromises presented as marketing arguments.
