Overview
It only took 14 days to sell the production of this staggering machine. As in luxury, exceptional motorcycles are not affected by crises. It all began at the end of 2015, when Aprilia decided to launch the Factory Works program. Turnkey solutions to access even more effective engines than standard hypersport models; from simple optimization to a Superbike motorcycle.
Then, in 2019, the team at Factory Works decided to release a seriously well-equipped RSV4 in a limited series: the RSV4 X. From this emerged a lineage whose desire to massacre the stopwatch grew stronger with each generation, with the secret objective of getting closer and closer to MotoGP each time. This time, they almost achieved it, with the RSV4 X-GP!!!
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the RS-GP, the motorcycle entered in the world championship, Aprilia is releasing this stunning machine, the latest member of the X family. A motorcycle infused with the best technical solutions the brand has been able to develop. You don't need a contract with an official or satellite team. Just a large check, plenty of experience, and a touch of fantasy at your fingertips.
Of the RSV4, not much is recognizable anymore. This new chapter identifies as the direct descendant of the ex3ma. The face is equivocal, as menacing and tortured as last year. However, the rear end is completely different. Until now, the X models retained the aggressive and pointed rear of the standard RSV4 models. The X-GP concludes the transition to the premier category by adopting the same tail as the Grand Prix machine. A massive, visually heavy assembly, loaded with new appendages to further gain aerodynamic efficiency. One of the two SC Project titanium exhausts is hidden under the seat, while side winglets (introduced this year on the RS-GP25) and a fairing accent the stability of the machine.
The entire new rear section is made of carbon fiber; as is the fairing. The latter incorporates solutions already proven on the ex3ma model, i.e. unique specifications with a multi-layer carbon fiber skin manufactured by PAN Compositi and winglets in all directions. The enormous wave deflector under the nostrils loads the front to its maximum to relieve traction control and improve corner entry; then the ambiguous shapes of the side panels create a ground effect to generate downforce in curves.
As optimized as a Formula 1 car, this RSV4 develops the same efficiency profile as a current MotoGP, and becomes just as ugly. Fittingly, its livery is almost identical to that of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi’s machines.
The engineers in Noale have once again managed to find more horsepower in the V4. 238 hp develop at 13,750 rpm from its 1,099 cm3 displacement. 8 horsepower were found from the ex3ma thanks to new settings, an increased compression ratio, racing intake trumpets, and a Spintfilter air filter. The engine also has more over-revs with 200 extra revolutions before the redline, now set at 14,100 rpm.
Some rumors had suggested that the swingarm would be made of carbon fiber. Not at all! But that will happen one day, I guarantee. The RSV4 chassis, with its double-beam aluminum frame and inverted-arm swingarm, is strong enough to handle the load. To help it, Aprilia equips it with a pressurized Öhlins FKR inverted fork, a TTX damper (Swedish as well) with MotoGP-derived settings management, an Öhlins steering damper, and brakes to blow your cartilage. Brembo GP4-MS calipers, controlled by a Brembo PR19x16 master cylinder, and biting into 330 mm T-Drive discs. No carbon discs on the menu but enough to stay on the edge with Pirelli Diablo SBK SC-1 and SC-X tires – those from the WSBK championship.
Aprilia has strangely chosen to replace the carbon fiber rims with forged magnesium models. We are still in the high-end range (the rim lifts with a finger) with these Marchesini components. Agility will be formidable, especially since the motorcycle is not very heavy. 165 kg, only 8 more than a MotoGP.
With such a large amount of power in the engine, the RSV4 X-GP needs powerful electronics. The APX control unit allows the rider to calibrate traction control, wheelie control, engine braking, and power delivery, for each gear. Furthermore, the APX is equipped with a GPS system and handles data acquisition.
To interact with this, Aprilia has thought of everything. A large gift box containing a Yashi laptop with the appropriate software to manage the ECU and electronic strategies. Look underneath. You will also find heated blankets, titanium workshop stands, a mat, a cover, and an authenticity certificate in NFT format. To conclude the motorcycle delivery, its buyer can visit Aprilia’s racing department.
Not to mention... Let’s talk about all the racing parts it carries. There’s plenty to brag about with a STM dry clutch, a Jetprime dashboard, Spider machined parts (adjustable footrests, tank cap, levers, brake protection), a fork stem with the serial number, oversized water and oil radiators, a titanium crown, a lightened pinion, and an RK 520 chain.
After the RSV4 X, Tuono X, RSV4 X Trenta, and RSV4 X ex3ma, their creator pushes the bar even higher. The Aprilia RSV4 X-GP is closer to a prototype than an exclusive sportbike. Even more refined than a Superbike in terms of aerodynamics and with similar power, it raises the level of combativeness of the X lineage. 30 units will be manufactured, facing a price that climbs to 90,000 euros (excluding taxes). For a motorcycle that you cannot enter in any championship... But it is certainly the only machine allowing you to approach the threshold of a GP rider.
