Overview
Imagine a supermoto that frequented the paddocks rather than gyms. That's roughly the best way to approach the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP (2023), a machine that has carried its vocation in its genes since the 1100 Evo, more than a decade ago. The SP lineage has survived generations, standards, and trends. It hasn't survived by chance.

The 90° L-twin engine with a displacement of 937 cc produces 114 horsepower at 9000 rpm and 96 Nm of torque at 7250 rpm for a dry weight of only 176 kg, two kilos less than the standard version. These figures speak for themselves, but it's the way they are organized that makes the difference. The gearbox benefits from the same treatment as the Monster and the SuperSport: the selection drum now rotates on bearings, making the neutral position more accessible and gear changes smoother. On a machine as heavily used in riding, this is not a detail. The bidirectional quickshifter is standard equipment, which could have appeared on the options bill of the base version.
Öhlins suspension components constitute the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP's key argument against its little sister. Fully adjustable 48 mm inverted fork, mono-shock from the same Swedish manufacturer, asymmetrical aluminum swingarm: the ground connection work has been completely redesigned. Increased stroke offers more ground clearance and three additional degrees of lean angle, totaling 47 degrees. The direct counterpart to all of this is a seat height of 890 mm from the ground. As much as some enduro machines, noticeably more than the Ténéré 700. Shorter riders will need to take this into account before signing a purchase order or looking for a used Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP in classified ads.
Forged Marchesini rims and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires complete a technical endowment that justifies the price positioning. The onboard electronics include cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and three riding modes, all supervised by a six-axis inertial unit. It's the complete kit, no safety net. The DRL integrated into the headlight and the USB socket are the only concessions to daily use on a machine that was not really designed for commuting.
The displayed price of 18,490 euros positions the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP well above a KTM 890 SMR or a Husqvarna 901 Nuda, its most direct rivals in this segment. The difference is justified by the quality of the components, the reputation of the mechanics, and the density of the electronic equipment. However, at this price, racing brake calipers would have been appreciated rather than the standard equipment shared with the base version. It's not a fatal criticism, it's a nuance. The Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP technical specifications confirm it: it's a machine for seasoned riders, those who know exactly what they are buying and why they are paying that price.
