Overview

Since the 2011 version, the 990 SM-T is slightly richer in equipment (12V socket, hazard lights) and above all in safety. The Katoche touring machine received a state-of-the-art disconnectable ABS. Developed by Bosch, it only adds a kilo to the machine and does not prevent sporty riding. A temperament that suits the 990 SM-T, alias the SuperMoto Touring. An engine designed to devour kilometers, relatively light (less than 200 kg), and developed based on the 990 SM. A kind of mix between a road trail, a roadster and a supermotard, featuring a semi-protective fairing and powered by a large twin.

Hold on…! But that reminds us of something. A hybrid of this kind, with a touring bias, it seems… Yes, we are in the presence of a competitor to the TDM. Except that the factory's temperament should offer us something more sporty, in a vein comparable to the Ducati Multistrada and the English Tiger. Indeed, being derived from the Supermoto, we suspect that the engine will be able to cheerfully switch from travel to playful or sporty riding.

The SM-T aims to be more accessible, more road-oriented than its siblings. The suspension travel, identical to that of the SMR, is reduced compared to the SM, going from 200 to 160 mm at the front and from 210 to 180 mm at the rear. The seat height, still substantial, goes to 855 mm high (- 2 cm). The engine is of course entrusted to a large, powerful twin, which does not intend to fall asleep on the SM-T. 999 cm3 for 116 horsepower, with a torque of 9.9 mkg. But let's not confuse speed, power and dispositions; with its large 19-liter tank, its luggage pre-equipment and its road tires, the Katoche clearly shows its desire to discover the country. The arrival of the 1190 Adventure may cast a shadow over it, but the SM-T retains the advantage of a reasonable and playful build.
