Overview
Imagine a supermoto that has undergone serious sporting preparation, that has traded in its sneakers for slicks, without losing its taste for urban anarchy. That's exactly what the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP represents in the Bologna range: the version that doesn't just aim to be fun, but demands that you be up to the challenge.

The SP family has existed at Ducati since the 1100 Evo, and each generation has justified the nickname. The 2019 version is no exception. The 937 cm3 V2 develops 114 horsepower at 9000 rpm for 96 Nm of torque at 7250 rpm, figures identical to the standard version, but what changes here is everything surrounding that engine. The Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP weighs 176 kg dry, two kilos less than the 950 classic and three less than the 939 SP it replaces. This weight reduction effort comes from the forged Marchesini rims, the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires, and a few carbon fiber parts, including the front mudguard and belt covers. On a machine as agile as this, every gram counts.
But the real argument for the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP technical specifications is the suspension setup. Öhlins at both ends, fully adjustable, with an inverted 48 mm diameter fork. The stroke has been increased, which offers additional ground clearance and lean angles raised to 47 degrees. A direct consequence: the seat rises to 890 mm, a height that exceeds that of a trail bike like the Ténéré 700 and that will reserve this pleasure for medium to tall riders. Smaller pilots interested in a used Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP will need to anticipate this parameter; it doesn't forgive at the traffic light. The monobrach aluminum swingarm, the trellis steel tubular frame, and a contained wheelbase of 1498 mm form a combination that promises razor-sharp steering in the twisty sections.
The electronics match the mechanical ambition. Cornering ABS, traction control, anti-wheeling, three riding modes, all supervised by a six-axis inertial unit. The bidirectional quickshifter is standard equipment, which is a good thing because with 114 horsepower on 176 kg, you’re not going to be dawdling with the lever. The tech package is completed by a color TFT screen and a USB socket, which should be enough to calm the practical minds. Faced with a KTM 890 SMR or a Husqvarna 901 Svartpilen, the Ducati plays in a different price bracket but also offers a sensory signature that its Austrian rivals do not reproduce.
How many horsepower does the Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP have? 114, which represents a serious power density for such a lightweight machine. But the real question is who it’s aimed at. Not beginners, clearly. Nor the weekend rider who just wants to cruise coolly around town. The 950 SP targets the experienced rider, comfortable with the sharp movements of a supermoto designed for mountain passes and fast secondary roads. A rider who knows how to use electronic aids as safety nets rather than as crutches. The Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP price displayed at 16,390 euros at its launch places the machine in the upper segment, without ambiguity. Subsequent versions, Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP 2020, 2021 and beyond, have maintained this orientation without major disruption, which confirms that the 2019 base was already just right.
It’s a machine with a strong character, demanding on the physique and technique, generous when you give it what it asks for. Not a motorcycle for everyone, rather a motorcycle for the good ones.
