Overview
Is this Triumph Speed Twin 1200 still a Sunday bike, or has it mutated into a more serious roadster, capable of keeping pace on a winding road? With its third generation presented for 2025, the answer seems to lean towards the second option, even if the British manufacturer plays a subtle balancing act between tradition and modernity.

At first glance, the silhouette remains faithful to the neo-retro spirit. The fuel tank has been slightly reshaped, the mufflers are more compact, and the seat is reprofiled to be less deep at the front. But the most significant evolution is hidden in the technical details. The 1200 twin cylinder engine, angled at 270°, the heart of the machine, has been reworked. It now delivers 105 horsepower at 7750 rpm, a gain of five units that requires a bit more revving to achieve. Torque, however, remains a solid pillar with 83 Nm available from 4250 rpm, ensuring that characteristic punch from the initial throttle openings. To channel this energy, Triumph has revised the chassis. The Marzocchi 43 mm fork and rear shock absorbers benefit from new settings, and the brake calipers, still radial and with four pistons, have changed origin. The appearance of active cornering ABS is also noteworthy, a welcome modernization.
It’s when settling into the riding position that the changes are most palpable. The handlebar is raised and brought closer to the rider, offering a slightly higher and more comfortable position. The traditional dashboard has been swept away, replaced by a single TFT screen that manages everything from speed to riding modes (Rain and Road), up to step-by-step navigation via smartphone. This digitalization marks a significant step, even if it may ruffle the feathers of vintage style purists.
Compared to its rivals, such as the Ducati Scrambler 1100 or certain variations of the BMW R nineT family, the Speed Twin 2025 positions itself as a more versatile and technological machine. Its price, announced at 13,895 euros, firmly anchors it in the premium segment. This rather salty price is explained by Triumph's desire to raise the level of finish and performance. For those looking for a used Triumph Speed Twin 1200, previous generations will undoubtedly offer a more analog character and a more accessible budget.

The target audience? Road warriors who want to combine classic style with modern capabilities, capable of dynamic outings without sacrificing daily comfort. The announced consumption of 5.1 liters per 100 km and the 14.5-liter tank promise correct ranges for travel. For those who want to push the sporty spirit, Triumph offers an RS version, more equipped, and a well-developed accessory policy, with Triumph Speed Twin 1200 luggage options or kits to transform the machine into a café racer.

In conclusion, this evolution is successful. It retains the charm and deep sound of the large twin, while correcting some shortcomings of the previous generation, particularly in terms of suspension. It is not the most radical or lightest motorcycle in its category, with a wet weight of 216 kg, but it finds its balance in a mixture of elegance, punch and technology. A machine that knows how to seduce as much by its looks as by its behavior on the road.
