Overview
The adaptation to Euro4 standards in 2017 for the Diavel Carbon is almost anecdotal when considering its history. Hardly redesigned in 2015, the Diavel Carbon already treated itself to a little makeover in 2016. Subtle, dark, shadowy elegance: a redesigned rim design, exhaust pipes covered with a ceramic material (Zircotec), a seat with new upholstery, and red that goes away. Ducati’s favorite color has almost completely disappeared. The frame and stripes tinted red are a thing of the past; black has taken over everything.
With the Diavel, Ducati ventured into an unknown category: the roadster-power-cruiser. And this charismatic, overpowered, and enjoyable creation can be proud to be a true success. The Diavel delivers visually and dynamically. The standard version announces something substantial: a twin derived from the Superbike with 162 horsepower, a 240 mm rear tire, a huge 50 mm inverted fork, multiple electronic aids, and a face that calms even the angriest of Rottweilers. That may not be enough for some, and that’s why the 1200 Diavel Carbon exists. Have you seen the Diavel with 152 horsepower instead of 162 here and there? That’s normal. The engine has lost nothing, but the measurement system has changed.
To justify its designation, the machine is equipped with carbon fiber parts: the front fender, the fuel tank, and the seat cowl. Ducati improves the Diavel’s dynamics by losing weight on two strategic elements: the rims. The superb forged aluminum Marchesini rims allow a weight loss of 2.5 kilos. Another strong point is the surface treatment that allows the aluminum to sparkle within the black rim. More elaborate color schemes reinforce the premium feel. Of course, the Carbon benefits from all the improvements of the Diavel phase II: beveled exhausts, a redesigned headlight circled by a daytime LED half-ring, a raised handlebar, a double ignition for each bowl of the Testastretta 11° block, and a little more torque, slight refinements for some parts (flanks, headlight fairing...), and an even more pronounced presence.
