Overview
We still remember the bombshell effect of 2004. As Yamaha had just struck hard with its new R1, Kawasaki unleashed a war machine, shaped for the track and outperforming everything else on asphalt. The 2005 ZX-10R was the resounding return of the green team to the pure hypersport arena, a thunderclap after the more refined ZX-9R. The objective was clear: to dominate the segment and make a mark, even if it meant scaring a few people. Mission accomplished.

Looking at this machine, you understand that it doesn't mess around. Everything is sharpened, pierced, evacuated to save grams and cool the beast. The fairings are sharp, the ultra-ventilated petal discs, and that massive front air intake that announces the color. Beneath this aggressive shell beats a completely new heart, a 998 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine claiming 175 horsepower for a dry weight of 170 kg. A figure that made the competition of the time blanch, including the Yamaha R1, and laid the foundation for a legend in WSBK. The engine, finally fuel-injected, is a concentrate of technology with its magnesium cases and short gearbox. But Kawasaki didn't stop at the engine. The backbone frame is massive, the swingarm imposing, the 43 mm inverted fork and radial calipers complete a chassis designed for rage.
On the saddle, the impression is immediate. It is compact, nervous, almost as slender as a 600. The riding position is committed, uncompromising, clearly intended for the track or winding roads, not for long journeys. The first contact with the engine is intriguing. At low revs, it grumbles with a nearly retro character, then the power build-up becomes serious. Past 9000 rpm, it's an explosion. The fury is unleashed with a violence and linear progression that takes your breath away. That's where the beast shows its fangs, delivering a power that demands respect and mastery. Compared to the GSX-R 1000 of the time, more versatile, the Kawasaki reveals itself to be more radical, more pointed. It doesn't forgive mistakes and rewards boldness with raw sensations. The braking, of remarkable efficiency, can surprise with a slight rear lift due to the anti-dribble system, a peculiarity that is managed with practice. In motion, it is remarkably stable in fast curves, while remaining lively and changeable, like a smaller displacement sportbike on steroids.

So, for whom? This 2005 ZX-10R is clearly not a motorcycle for beginners. It is aimed at the experienced rider, the track enthusiast or the demanding road rider seeking the quintessence of pure performance, the kind that makes you shiver and demands that you push yourself. Its price at the time, around €13,699, positioned it as an exceptional machine. Today, its status as a historical reference and its wild mechanics make it a cult machine. If you are looking for reviews of the Kawasaki ZX-10R 1000 from 2005, they all converge on one observation: it is a motorcycle that marked its time with its uncompromising character and its excessive performance. A fury on wheels that wrote a beautiful page in the history of hypersportives, and whose aggressive DNA can still be found in recent models. To know the price of a Kawasaki ZX-10R 1000 from 2016 or 2018 in France, you have to dive into the classified ads, because the price of these descendants, more evolved but still as biting, varies with their rarity and history.
