Overview
Imagine a machine designed not to shine under the spotlights of a showroom, but to disappear into a forest track somewhere between Bergen and Tromsø. That’s exactly the impression the Husqvarna Norden 901 gives at first glance. The silhouette is cut from Nordic austerity, with that globular headlight and flanks that seem to have been sculpted by the cold rather than by a designer seeking compliments. This is far from the polished trail-GTs for Instagram. Here, the motorcycle speaks for itself without seeking to convince.

Husqvarna doesn't arrive in adventure by chance. The Swedish brand, now owned by KTM, carries with it decades of motocross titles, particularly during the sixties and seventies, when it reigned on the dirt track. The Norden 901 represents its first serious step into the world of large-adventure trail bikes, and the genetic heritage is readable. The 889 cm³ parallel-twin engine is shared with the KTM 890 Adventure, as is the aluminum swingarm. But that's where the visible kinship ends. The Husqvarna Norden 901 has been worked to embody a distinct character, more northern, more rugged in its visual identity. While the KTM plays the card of a versatile practitioner, the Norden frankly claims the Far North, the fjords, the rocky tracks.
This twin delivers 105 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 100 Nm at 6500 rpm, figures consistent with what the direct competition offers, notably the Honda Africa Twin 1100 or the Suzuki V-Strom 1050. Sufficient to relaunch frankly after a muddy passage, without the motorcycle turning into an uncontrollable beast. The 46 mm injection, the six-speed gearbox with bidirectional shifter, and the anti-dribble clutch form a mature mechanical assembly. The electronics follow with four riding modes, including an Explorer mode fully customizable by the rider, traction control now refined on ten levels of sensitivity according to the Husqvarna Norden 901 specs for the 2024 version, switchable ABS at the rear in off-road mode, cruise control, and a five-inch connected TFT dashboard. For those who wonder if the Husqvarna Norden 901 has cruise control, the answer is yes, and it’s a real argument for long distances.

The 252 mm ground clearance places the Norden above a BMW R 1300 GS and at the level of an Africa Twin, without reaching the ambitions of a pure enduro. This is honest for a trail-adventure bike oriented towards tracks. The WP XPLOR inverted fork is 48 mm with 220 mm of travel, the WP monoshock is 215 mm, with accessible settings at both ends. The rolling chassis is consistent with the stated ambitions: Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires in 90/90-21 at the front and 150/70-18 at the rear, tubeless spoke rims, J.Juan-signed four-piston radial calipers on 320 mm front discs. No compromises on tires, which says a lot about the machine’s priorities.

The seat height is 859 mm, which automatically excludes smaller riders without adjustment. The 19-liter tank, positioned low and distributed on each side to lower the center of gravity, partly explains the wet weight of 217 kg. This is the main weakness for truly off-road use. With 204 kg dry, the Husqvarna Norden 901 weight remains reasonable but still requires some muscle for maneuvering on soft terrain. The announced consumption of 4.5 liters per 100 km, or approximately 52 mpg for English-speaking readers, offers a theoretical range of over 400 km. The displayed price of 15,399 euros positions it in the premium segment without reaching the prices of German machines. For a globetrotter looking to leave the asphalt without breaking the bank, reviews of the Husqvarna Norden 901 generally converge towards the same conclusion: the machine keeps its promises as long as you don’t ask it to compete with a competition enduro.
