Overview
Imagine a brand whose motocross pedigree dates back to the sixties, a legend forged in the mud of race circuits, and which arrives today in the adventure segment with the discretion of a berserker at coffee time. The Husqvarna Norden 901 is not the result of a marketing whim. It's a statement of intent. Husqvarna has built its reputation on the challenging terrain of enduro and MX before setting its wheels on adventure trails, and this transition is evident in every line of the machine.

Visually, the Norden does not seek to seduce café terraces. Its bulbous headlight, its angular flanks, its tank that plunges low on the sides like two overstuffed saddlebags, everything in its design says that it prefers coniferous forests to Haussmannian boulevards. The kinship with the KTM group is real; the 890 Adventure shares the same genetic base, but the engineers have worked sufficiently on the bodywork so that the two machines have little in common at first glance. The aluminum swingarm betrays the parentage; that’s about all. The rest is a unique identity, more austere, more Nordic, almost monastic in its aesthetic rigor.
Under the fairing, the 889 cc parallel-twin delivers 105 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 100 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. Figures that place the Husqvarna Norden 901 in the same register as an Africa Twin 1100 or a V-Strom 1050, without reaching the excess of power that transforms a trail into a monster difficult to tame off-road. The engine is liquid-cooled, fed by 46 mm injection, and the six-speed gearbox receives a bidirectional shifter. The anti-dribble clutch manages engine braking on descents, which on forest tracks represents a real safety net. The power of the Husqvarna Norden 901 simply responds: sufficient to do everything without ever feeling limited on the road, reasonable to remain manageable when the wheels lose their bearings.
The onboard electronics cover the full spectrum. Three riding modes are standard: Street, Off-road, and Rain, to which is added a fully customizable Explorer mode sold as an option. The three-level traction control remains active in corners, ABS manages anti-wheelie and is deactivated on the rear axle in off-road mode, the cruise control responds to the frequent question about cruise control, yes the Husqvarna Norden 901 is equipped with it. The five-inch TFT screen displays information with a sobriety that suits the character of the machine, without the flashy side of the dashboards of premium road trails.

Regarding the rolling chassis, the Husqvarna Norden 901 clearly differs from a sofa-trail. The WP Apex inverted fork is 43 mm with 220 mm of travel, the rear mono-shock is 215 mm with adjustable preload and rebound damping. The ground clearance is 252 mm, exceeding that of a GS 1250 (approximately 200 mm) and aligning with the Africa Twin, without reaching the 330 mm of a pure enduro machine. For moderate off-road, forest tracks, gravel roads, broken alpine passes, it is amply sufficient. For real technical off-road, you will have to accept the limits of a 217 kg machine fully fueled. The Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires in 90/90-21 front and 150/70-18 rear confirm the mixed ambitions of the machine, more aggressive than classic touring tires. The J.Juan braking system, four-piston calipers on 320 mm front discs, two pistons on 260 mm rear, provides a solid bite without being spectacular.

The seat height at 854 mm is what it is; shorter riders will have to compromise. The narrow seat facilitates foot placement, but the 13 centimeters of travel are paid for in cash when stopped. The 19-liter fuel tank, positioned low, improves the center of gravity and range, with consumption oscillating around 5 to 6 liters per 100 kilometers depending on the terrain. Priced at €14,749 at its launch, the Husqvarna Norden 901 price sits in the high range of mid-size trails, consistent with the level of equipment offered. It is aimed at the experienced rider who wants a sincere dual-purpose machine, not a road trail disguised with two centimeters of extra ground clearance. Those looking for a companion capable of devouring mountain roads in the morning and venturing onto tracks in the afternoon will find a convincing proposition here, provided they accept that the Norden does not claim to replace a pure enduro machine.
