Overview

So, the V-Rod Muscle is Harley-Davidson's story of a bold gamble. They took an engine signed by Porsche, a 60-degree V2 incorporating all the latest technology, expanded it to 1250 cm3 to unleash 123 horsepower, and wrapped it in a dragster silhouette that makes other customs look like antiques. The result, in 2009, was a declaration of war against the brand's traditional image. This beast, with its 240 mm wide rear tire and the look of a forged piece, doesn't murmur, it roars. It doesn't just make noise, it announces a deflagration.

Harley-Davidson VRSCF 1250 V-Rod Muscle

On paper, the figures dream up the brawler that lies dormant within us: 112 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm, a 43 mm inverted fork, and a dual 300 mm disc braking system at the front. But it must be admitted, with its 307 kilos and a full wallet, the Muscle is not lightweight. It imposes its weight, it accepts it. The low seat at 640 mm is a friendly deception; it makes you believe you are going to tame the beast easily, until you launch the first few meters and feel all this mass to manage. The position, very forward feet, straight back, transforms you into a human sail as soon as the wind rises or the speedometer exceeds 130 km/h. It's a drag strip machine disguised as a roadster, not a GT for devouring kilometers.

And yet, what a character! This twin-cylinder engine is the true heart of the matter. It doesn't grumble, it howls with a hoarse and mechanical voice, far from the cooing of classic Twins. The power is linear, violent, and the belt transmission sends the power without jerks. It swallows straight lines with a gluttonous appetite, cutting through the air with its flat nose. In corners, it’s a different matter altogether. It requires commitment, arm strength to lean it over, and a fair amount of confidence to play with this oversized rear tire. It’s far from the suppleness of a Japanese bike or even a Ducati Monster. Here, you pilot with pure will.

Who is it for? Certainly not a beginner, who would be swallowed whole. Nor the touring rider in search of comfort. The V-Rod Muscle is for the collector, the fan of pure mechanics, the one who wants a Harley without the clichés, a machine of raw sensations that attracts all eyes. At nearly 19,000 euros at the time, it was a desirable object, not a matter of reason. It wasn't perfect, far from it: greedy, intimidating, sometimes ungrateful. But it had that invaluable thing: a unique soul, a blend of German technology and American audacity that still turns heads today. It’s less a motorcycle than a manifesto on two wheels.
