Overview

Here is the most equipped, most touring-focused, heaviest… and most expensive 1250 Scout? No, it shares that burden with the 101—for the same price, you can choose between performance and touring. Two radically different approaches on the same platform. At Indian, family spirit goes hand in hand with a fine collection of personalities.

The Super Scout is a true cocktail, mixing various accessories and specifications: the spoked wheels and chrome mirrors are from the Classic, the minimalist fenders and block-pattern tires come from the Bobber; it also plays on originality by being the only one to mix black and chrome for its exhaust line. At the front, a strange extension is grafted to accommodate the road equipment. And yes, with the luggage kit, it would have been impossible for other road users to see the turn signals if the Super had retained the Bobber’s bobbed rear end. And besides, it was either the left saddlebag or the license plate. In short, it was necessary to play with ingenuity, and it must be terribly awkward once the saddlebags are removed.

Indeed, it is clear that the Super Scout has a pair of saddlebags on its hips. Their capacity will be limited, just enough to carry the contents of an evening. That's touring soft; there’s no question of competing with a Roadmaster. The saddlebags benefit from a hard-molded structure to maintain their shape despite external hostilities. As the desire to travel itches, the Scout is equipped with a 35 cm windshield, removable in seconds. It is also the only one in the family to appreciate the presence of a passenger, with an adequate seat and footrests.

Here is the Scout ready to leave for the weekend. With it, we include as standard the "Limited +Tech" finish. This corresponds to a good dose of electronics: three Riding Modes (Sport – Standard – Touring) to adjust the throttle response, traction control, cruise control, a USB socket, keyless ignition, and the 4-inch color TFT screen with Ride Command system, multiple displays, GPS navigation and smartphone control.

The Scout attacks its second generation of the modern era, with a profound structural overhaul. The frame is no longer this aluminum structure but a more classic tubular steel element. Inside, the engine has been completely redesigned: 117 cm3 larger thanks to an increase in the bore, larger injection bodies, a revised gearbox, a more robust appearance, and a significant gain in power. Torque gains more than 1 mkg, with a maximum of 11 mkg, while 94 horsepower gallop with the twin – now named SpeedPlus. Before 2026, the unit offered 105. But why this loss of 11 horsepower...?!?

At Indian, the qualifier "Super" seems to have a completely different meaning than in everyday life. Between the Super Chief Limited and now this Super Scout, its definition is akin to "light touring." Its origin goes back a long way… In 1949, during a period of decline, further hampered by the poor quality and reliability of its motorcycles, the manufacturer released a 249 Scout with a mission: to revive the moribund company thanks to a lightweight and sporty model, equipped with a more English than American engine: a 440 cm3 parallel-twin. The "Super" version was equipped with saddlebags, crash bars and a center stand. It will be one of the last models of the brand, before its bankruptcy in 1953. The 1250 Super Scout of 2025 takes up the same idea, in a much more euphoric period.
