Overview
With the Street Bob, you set off on a ride with a more pronounced piece of America. No frills, no superflu, just the essentials. It is, and claims to be a bobber, prioritizing sensations and leaving a dry taste of metal in your mouth after each piston stroke. It’s the one that grabs you once you’ve had good times with the Softail Standard. It grabs you by the nose, plants its headlight in your irises and strongly murmurs "have you discovered the Milwaukee neighborhoods?!? Come with me to forge your abs!"
The Street Bob wasn’t marking its difference enough with the Standard until now. Then its growling appetite took it to another level of brawl. It increases in displacement with the appropriation of the 114 ci block. Two more filled cylinders, a slightly higher compression ratio, a few 8 horsepower more and, above all, a torque increase of 1 mkg. Without Euro 5, it would have easily given a few Nm more. Heavy steps in each chamber, a deep and inimitable rhythm with that moment at 3250 rpm. Where the muscle is strongest. Not far from 16 mkg in the throat and almost 300 kilos to carry, it muscles you a Harley. Vibrations exist, but not immediately. Calm at idle, the M8 only twitches when you take it dancing.
Being the lightest of the Softail models, the machine gains vitality on all levels. A little more sporty? No, we won’t go that far. More present rather.
Apart from the larger engine and more assertive graphics, the manufacturer has not made any modifications to the rest of the Street Bob. As if the brand was still leaving a little time to absorb the technical shock. Which one? When it moved from a Dyna frame (discontinued for the occasion) to a Softail. Are regrets or rancor still mentioned? Unlikely, given the best road qualities that the cycle part provides. In terms of style, the falsely rigid rear corresponds well to the character of this motorcycle, the Hardtail style still being highly appreciated by enthusiasts.
Spoke wheels, a pair of fork gaiters, wind in your face, Shotgun exhausts to threaten your pursuers and darkness to the heart of the metal – Bob doesn’t hide its game. It likes virility, taut leather and hairs sticking out of boots. With its speedometer reduced to a status as essential as hidden, information on speed or control lights are now just accessories.
There’s also a passenger seat now. But why? Do you really think the Street Bob has a sense of sharing?
