Overview
When we think of enduro bikes at Aprilia, we readily imagine mud being flung, technical obstacles being cleared, and sweat under the helmet. The RX 125 2023 cultivates this image with care, but it plays a slightly different score: that of an enduro 125 that embraces its Italian sporting DNA as much as its off-road capabilities. No deception here, just an assumed positioning.

The question often arises among novices: is the Aprilia RX 125 a two-stroke? The answer is no, and it hasn't been since 2018. This was the real turning point in the history of the RX. The current version revolves around a 124 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine, directly derived from the same mechanical family as the RS and Tuono 125. For 2023, the Euro 5 update has refined the whole without revolutionizing it: revised ECU mapping, reworked combustion chamber, iridium spark plug, optimized air filter and intake management. As a result, 15 horsepower at 10,000 rpm and a torque of 10.9 Nm available from 8,000 rpm. This won't disorient pilots accustomed to 2T engines of yesteryear, but the delivery is more linear and consumption drops to 2.6 liters per 100 km, which is remarkable for the genre.
What distinguishes the Aprilia RX 125 enduro from its SX supermotard cousin lies in a few things on the surface: a larger front wheel increased to 21 inches, knobby tires 90/90-21 at the front and 120/80-18 at the rear, a more developed rear sprocket with 69 teeth against 62 on the SX, and a less generous front disc. The rest is common, including the steel tubular frame. The 41 mm inverted fork and the single-sided swingarm mono-shock offer generous travel, designed to absorb off-road impacts. At 134 kg fully fueled for a 7-liter tank, the RX remains within manageable proportions for an A1 license, even if the 905 mm seat will require the rider to have their legs well positioned.

The braking deserves a special mention. The fitted ABS not only prevents wheel lockup: it integrates a rear anti-dive function, technology directly borrowed from the brand's large machines from the Superbike world. On a 4,099 euro enduro 125, this is a concrete argument, not a marketing gimmick. The optional USB port under the seat complements equipment that clearly targets a young audience, holders of an AM or A1 license, who want to get off the beaten path without breaking the bank.

Faced with a KTM EXC 125 or a Yamaha WR 125, the Aprilia RX 125 4T does not claim the same level of pure competition. The comparison would be unfair and out of place. Where the Austrian and Japanese models aim for raw performance in amateur competition, the Aprilia RX 125 aims for leisure use and trail aesthetics. The announced top speed of 120 km/h confirms this: it is a pleasure machine, versatile, accessible, which allows you to explore the trails without sacrificing style. For a young rider looking for their first used Aprilia RX 125 or hesitating on a new Aprilia RX 125 2023, the technical specifications speak for themselves. The transalpine character does the rest.
