Overview
When Aprilia designs a machine capable of tackling forest trails at 3,899 euros, the result doesn’t resemble a low-end cross motorcycle. The Aprilia RX 125 2021 immediately displays an adult posture, with its 21-inch front wheel, knobby tires, and this taut silhouette that recalls true competition enduro bikes. This was intentional, calculated, and frankly successful in terms of aesthetics.

Those who remember the Aprilia RX 125 2t of yesteryear know that the transition to four-stroke in 2018 marked a sharp turning point. The 124 cc single-cylinder engine that powers the machine today is directly derived from the RS and Tuono 125, two benchmarks in the sporty segment of the Noale firm. For the Aprilia RX 125 4t, engineers reworked the combustion chamber, intake, exhaust, and ECU to satisfy the Aprilia RX 125 Euro 5, while refining the torque curve. Result: 15 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, 10.9 Nm at 8,250 rpm, and remarkably economical fuel consumption of 2.73 liters per hundred kilometers. For an A1 license, the regulatory ceiling is respected, but the six-speed gearbox and the maximum speed announced at 120 km/h leave a real margin of exploitation on the trails.
The technical specifications of the Aprilia RX 125 reveal a perimeter steel frame, a 41 mm diameter inverted fork with generous travel, and a progressive rate hydraulic monoshock at the rear. The whole weighs 134 kg fully fueled, a reasonable weight for a machine with a seat height of 905 mm. This isn't a motorcycle for small, beginner riders, but it will perfectly suit young riders who aim for the Aprilia RX 125 enduro as their first real off-road experience. Compared to its cousin the SX, the supermotard version, the differences are limited to the larger front wheel, trail tires, and a longer transmission ratio with a 69-tooth rear sprocket. Same frame, same suspensions, same engine. The Aprilia RX 125 supermotard and the enduro therefore share the same DNA, only the vocation changes.

What truly distinguishes this Aprilia RX 125 test from competitors on paper is the electronic equipment. The front braking benefits from ABS, but not the rudimentary type copied from a city scooter. Aprilia borrowed the technology from its Superbike to integrate a rear wheel lift-up prevention function during braking. On a 125 trail bike, this is an attention that stands out. The rear brake remains a simple floating disc without ABS, which is consistent for off-road use where locking the rear wheel is part of the riding. An optional USB port under the seat completes the package for users who want to recharge their phone between outings.

Let's be honest about the positioning. Faced with a KTM EXC or a Yamaha WR in their off-road version, the Aprilia RX 125 used or new will not play in the same court in terms of pure performance in demanding undergrowth. The power remains constrained by the A1 regulations, and the engine from a road platform shows its limits when short bursts and sustained revs are chained together on technical trails. But the Aprilia RX 125 price of 3,899 euros targets a different audience: the young enthusiast who wants to practice enduro with style, ride cleanly on green trails and marked paths, without committing to a competition budget. The Italian brand has always known how to sell desire as much as performance. With this RX, the contract is honored.
