Overview
Do you remember the time when a 675 cm³ motorcycle could still surprise you, without needing a touchscreen dashboard or endless riding modes? The 2009 Triumph Street Triple R is exactly that. A machine that defined the sporty roadster segment, with a recipe so effective that it forged its legend. We are talking about the original generation, the one that proved that a three-cylinder engine could be both temperamental and civilized, an alchemy that later versions, up to the current Street Triple R 765, have only refined.

Its heart beats with an inline three delivering 108 horsepower at 11700 rpm. The figures, today, no longer seem staggering, but that misses the point. The magic lies in the immediate response, in the torque available from the mid-range and which propels you with an addictive linearity. Compared to a Japanese four-cylinder engine of the time, often more peaky, the Street Triple R 675 engine offers suppleness and a raspy sound that is an integral part of the pleasure. With a weight of 185 kg fully fueled, it displays the agility of a tightrope walker, making the city and winding roads its natural playground.
The letter R was not an empty marketing ploy. Triumph drew on parts from the sporty Daytona to transform the beast. The front end gets its 41 mm inverted forks, fully adjustable, and above all its radial four-piston calipers. Braking gains bite and precision, a decisive advantage for those who like to attack corners. The perimeter aluminum frame, the mono-shock also adjustable, and the tires in 120/70 at the front and 180/55 at the rear complete a chassis of formidable neutrality. It is a motorcycle that inspires confidence, where the rider feels everything and decides everything.
Who was it for? The demanding sporty touring rider, the young license holder looking for a first large displacement engine with character, but also the Sunday track rider looking for a healthy and modifiable base. Its price of 8790 euros at the time positioned it as a serious and charismatic alternative to the Japanese bikes. Today, a 2009 Street Triple R in good condition is a gem for the enthusiast. It embodies an era when electronics had not yet taken precedence over raw feel. Riding a Triumph Street Triple R from this generation is to understand why the model has survived and evolved to the Street Triple R 2022. It is a lesson in pure mechanics, a machine that is ridden with the wrists and body, not with a digital menu. For authentic pleasure, it remains a difficult reference to dethrone.
