Overview
What happens when a temperamental Italian decides to raid her sisters' wardrobe? The 2023 MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS grabs the wheels from the Superveloce 800 S, borrows a carbon hub cover from the 1000 Rush, and treats itself to brand-new Brembo M4.32 calipers along the way. The result is a muscular roadster playing fashionista without losing an ounce of its brutality. But the real magic trick is hiding elsewhere. Picture a traffic-light launch—right hand rolling on the throttle, left foot clicking into first, and nobody on the clutch lever. The bike surges forward. No stalling, no jerkiness. Just a clean burst of acceleration and a 798 cc triple screaming its joy of living.

The secret goes by three letters: SCS, for Smart Clutch System. A centrifugal automatic clutch developed by American specialist Rekluse, which handles transmission engagement and disengagement on its own. The rider keeps the foot-operated gear selector, and the Up&Down quickshifter takes over for gear changes. The whole assembly weighs just 36 grams more than a conventional clutch and fits inside the original crankcase with no mechanical modification. The extra cost is around 500 euros, buried in an overall price tag of 22,999 euros that places the MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS in a pricing stratosphere where it rubs shoulders with the Triumph Speed Triple RS or the Ducati Streetfighter V2. Except neither of those two offers this kind of semi-automatic technology as standard.
On the pure mechanical side, the inline three-cylinder retains its 140 horsepower at 12,300 rpm and 87 Nm of torque at 10,250 rpm, with a 13.3:1 compression ratio that betrays an engine built for high revs. The power output is generous for a machine weighing 175 kg dry, and a top speed of 244 km/h confirms that Varese is not messing around. The electronic management has been overhauled with an inertial measurement unit feeding a cornering ABS, a more refined traction control, and a recalibrated anti-wheelie system. The 5.5-inch TFT display centralizes all information, and the headlight features adaptive cornering illumination. For a naked bike, the equipment level borders on that of a high-end sport-tourer.

The chassis relies on a tubular steel trellis frame bolted to aluminum plates, a fully adjustable 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, and an equally adjustable Sachs rear shock. Braking duties fall to two 320 mm discs gripped by radial-mount four-piston calipers up front, complemented by a 220 mm disc and a two-piston caliper at the rear. The 120/70-17 and 200/50-17 tires provide a substantial contact patch, well suited to the engine's 140 horsepower. The seat, perched at 845 mm, has been reworked to offer a hint of extra comfort, even though we are not talking about a touring bike here. The 16.5-liter tank limits range, but nobody buys a Dragster to cross the country in one go.
This 2024 MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS targets a rider who wants to stand out, as much through looks as through onboard technology. The SCS system turns urban riding into pure pleasure and makes standing starts effortless without sacrificing the thrill of a well-timed gear change. Purists may grumble, arguing that a real rider knows how to feather a clutch. They are not wrong. But after a few miles in traffic with this system, it is hard to go back. The 2021 MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS laid the groundwork; the 2023 version refines the recipe with more mature electronics and markedly improved braking. The question of price and MV Agusta's after-sales network remains—two areas where the Japanese competition or even Ducati hold a clear advantage. At this price point, flawless reliability is expected. Varese has been warned.
