Overview
Imagine a naked bike that can launch from a red light without your left hand ever touching the clutch lever. That's the promise of the MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS, 2021 vintage, and it's no gimmick. The Smart Clutch System, developed by American specialist Rekluse, replaces the conventional clutch with an automatic centrifugal mechanism that handles transmission engagement and disengagement on its own. Your foot still clicks through the six gears via the shifter, but pulling away from a standstill becomes almost disconcertingly easy. All for 36 grams of added weight and roughly 500 euros more than the standard Dragster RR. On paper, it's clever. In practice, it's the kind of technology that changes the way you approach city riding or tight sequences of corners.

Beneath that bodywork sculpted in Varese, the 798 cc inline triple has lost none of its bite. The 140 horsepower is still there, delivered at 12,300 rpm, backed by 87 Nm of torque at 10,250 rpm. The 13.3:1 compression ratio and 79 x 54.3 mm bore/stroke betray an engine built to love revs. This powerplant adores climbing through the rpm range and rewards the rider who dares to explore the upper reaches of the tachometer. On the other side of the fence, rivals offer machines like the Triumph Street Triple RS or the Yamaha MT-09 SP, but none combine this level of mechanical sophistication with such Latin temperament. The MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS 2021 plays in a league of its own — that of character-driven naked bikes that refuse to compromise.
On the chassis side, the ALS tubular steel trellis frame houses a 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork adjustable in rebound, compression, and preload, paired with an equally adjustable Sachs rear shock. Brembo-signed braking relies on radial-mount four-piston calipers gripping 320 mm floating discs up front. The package rides on generous rubber — 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 200/55 ZR17 at the rear — for a contained dry weight of 175 kg. The short 1,400 mm wheelbase and a seat perched at 845 mm confirm the machine's sporty character. It's not the most welcoming motorcycle for shorter riders, but the overall compactness partly compensates for that height.

The onboard electronics on this 2020–2021 version have taken a serious step forward. The 5.5-inch TFT display centralizes all information, the headlight now integrates adaptive cornering illumination, and the inertial measurement unit (IMU) governs cornering ABS, refined traction control, and an anti-wheelie system. The third-generation Up&Down quickshifter complements the SCS setup with remarkable smoothness. Add cruise control for highway stretches and you get a technological package worthy of a top-tier sportbike, housed in a roadster weighing under 180 kilos.
At 20,000 euros, the MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS 2024 remains positioned as an object of desire rather than a rational choice. The claimed fuel consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km and the 16.5-liter tank limit range on long trips, and the 244 km/h top speed is a reminder that this machine prefers short bursts of acceleration to long straights. It's aimed at an experienced rider, one who values Italian mechanical exclusivity and wants to stand out from the hordes of Japanese or British roadsters. Not an everyday motorcycle, but one that makes every day a little more special.
