Overview

Motorcycle: MV Agusta Dragster 800 RR SCS (2025)

Do you feel the influence of friends? While the Dragster made a real visual impact upon its release, aging the Brutale in the process, it now borrows ideas from other models in the range. 2023 saw it lose its tangential spoke wheels for the equally spectacular wheels of the Superveloce 800 S. However, the rear wheel draws inspiration from the 1000 Rush for its carbon fiber cover.

This new version also features the fitment of new Brembo M4.32 calipers, electronic optimizations to engine management, the dashboard, and riding aids, a revised seat for a little more comfort, slightly increased pressure in the rear brake circuit, and a throttle grip with improved feel and negative rotation to disengage the cruise control. But curious onlookers will discover much more. First, listen before acclimating your eyes.

A rumble down the street. Impatient, noisy, somewhere between a howl and a growl. Nothing less than a bubbling 3-cylinder, seemingly Italian. Once you get closer, you discover the nervous and compact appearance of an MV-Agusta 800 Dragster RR. It is stationary, crouched, ready to pounce. You expect to see it shoot off like a bomb. The rider is gripping the controls... and quickly turns the throttle. Suddenly, the duo shoots off the scene – Yet, the clutch lever has never seen the fingers of the hand. What is this sorcery?

It’s called SCS. C.a.d the Smart Clutch System. A centrifugal automatic clutch developed by Rekluse. The system engages or disengages the gearbox without user action. For subsequent gear changes, the quickshifter takes over (with foot action, of course).

MV Agusta has implemented the SCS to allow for cannon starts, very difficult to achieve with a conventional system. A beautiful little piece of technology, weighing only 36 grams more than a standard clutch, fitting into the dedicated housing without modification to the engine or clutch cover, and costing around €500 extra.

This "semi-automatic" Dragster naturally receives all the improvements of the Dragster RR; shared with all 800cc machines in the brand. An engine with a host of optimized internal components, preserving the 140 horsepower, a reworked exhaust that’s a weapon, a more rigid chassis and recalibrated suspension, a significant upgrade in electronics - we don’t cut corners in Varese. Two things stand out first: the 5.5-inch TFT screen and the complex headlight, now featuring cornering light technology. Hidden within the entrails, the additional riding aids consist of a 3rd generation Up&Down quickshifter, an IMU enabling cornering ABS, improved traction control and anti-wheeling, cruise control, and optimized engine management.

The essential part of the chassis continues its work, with a frame combining steel tubular trellis and aluminum plates, a 43mm fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork, a monobras, a fully adjustable Sachs shock absorber, a steering damper, muscular brakes consisting of 4-piston radial calipers with 320mm discs at the front – a 2-piston caliper and a 220mm disc at the rear, 120mm and 200mm wide tires, and a dry weight of 175 kilos.
