Overview
Who can still claim that the sport-GT is a dying breed? Kawasaki, true to its reputation as a manufacturer that never does things by halves, decided to answer that question with a 998 cc argument topped by a supercharger. The 2018 Ninja H2 SX SE Performance is the promise of straddling a machine capable of devouring the motorway like a bullet train while retaining the bite of a pure sportbike. All for 23,099 euros — the price of a family sedan. Except here, we're talking about 205 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 142.2 Nm of torque available from just 9,500 rpm. The kind of numbers that plaster a stupid grin inside your helmet before you've even shifted into second.

What sets this Performance version apart from the "standard" H2 SX SE is first and foremost its Akrapovic titanium and carbon exhaust system, fitted as standard. This is no mere cosmetic accessory. The Slovenian silencer frees up a few extra horsepower across the entire rev range, refines the inline four-cylinder's sound, and shaves two kilos off the total weight. On a machine that already tips the scales at 258 kg wet, every gram saved counts. Kawasaki rounds out the package with a smoked windscreen and knee-area tank protectors — details that betray genuine thought about long-distance road use. The 19-litre tank also provides decent range for a motorcycle of this temperament.
On the chassis side, the tubular steel trellis frame houses a 43 mm inverted fork and a rear mono-shock, all rolling on 120/70 and 190/55 tyres. Braking duties are handled by radial-mount four-piston calipers biting 320 mm discs up front. It's robust and well-sized to rein in all that horsepower. The 835 mm seat height won't pose any problems for average-sized riders, but shorter pilots will have to contend with the sheer bulk of the beast. Because the H2 SX SE Performance remains a big motorcycle, built for main roads and ambitious journeys rather than urban lane-splitting.
Against the competition, this Kawasaki plays in the same league as the BMW S 1000 XR and the Ducati Multistrada. But it brings an argument nobody else offers in this segment: forced induction. This supercharger, inherited from the demonic H2, delivers a linear and relentless surge that turns every roll-on into a small event. No flat spots, no jerks — just an unrelenting wave of torque that builds without faltering. It's this sensation, more than the raw numbers, that makes the machine truly unique.
Then there's the positioning. At over 23,000 euros, Kawasaki is clearly targeting the experienced rider — the one who's already been around the block and is looking for a machine capable of doing everything with flair. The Ninja H2 SX SE Performance is neither a first bike nor a weekend toy. It's a radical touring tool, designed for those who refuse to choose between performance and versatility. In a world where manufacturers water down their models to tick regulatory boxes, Kawasaki persists in offering motorcycles with character. And for that alone, this H2 SX deserves respect.
