Overview

Imagine a vehicle that once promised dusty horizons and bush trails, but now presents itself with a touchscreen and cruise control. The Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports, in its 2025 incarnation, is precisely this evolution. It has matured, it has grown, it has been decked out with silicon, and now it targets an audience that wants to cross continents on pavement rather than dunes on gravel. With a tank of nearly 25 liters and an announced weight of over 253 kg fully fueled, it is no longer the light and playful motorcycle of the 90s. It is a serious touring tool, almost diplomatic, where autonomy and protection are the key words.

Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports

The most significant change, the one that seals its new destiny, lies in its front end. The 21-inch wheel, a symbol of off-road agility, has been replaced by a 19-inch wheel fitted with a wider tire. The Showa suspension travel has been reduced, and frankly off-road oriented tires are replaced by more road-biased compounds. This transformation is not insignificant. It means that Honda has listened to its customers: a majority uses this machine for long distances on the road, often with the automatic DCT transmission, an option that represents a significant portion of sales. The seat height, now at 836 mm, and the revised ergonomics confirm this orientation towards comfort and accessibility.

On the mechanical side, the 1084 cm3 twin-cylinder engine has not been revolutionized, but optimized. The 102 horsepower at 7500 rpm remain identical, but the torque has been boosted, reaching 105 Nm at a lower rev, 5500 rpm. Honda speaks of a 7% gain, and it can be felt. The engine is fuller in the low and mid range, which makes acceleration more crisp and the management of the DCT gearbox, already very popular on previous models such as the Africa Twin Adventure Sports 2019 or 2022, more natural. It is not an explosion of power, but a welcome refinement for long straight roads and corner exits.

The equipment and electronics place this Adventure Sports in the league of the greats. The 6.5-inch TFT screen, connected with Apple CarPlay, the inertial measurement unit (IMU), cornering ABS, wheelie control, and the semi-active Showa EERA suspensions are now standard. One can debate the price, 18499 euros, but it corresponds to this plethora of technologies. Compared to a BMW GS or a KTM Adventure, the Honda stands out by perhaps a less radical approach in a specific area, but more balanced and integrated. It will not be the most agile in the trail, nor the most explosive on the track, but it will probably be the most consistent and comfortable for a traveler who wants to cover 500 km per day without pain.

The target audience is clear: the modern traveler. The one who wants a motorcycle capable of crossing Europe with a full SW-Motech top case, following navigation on the integrated screen, and benefiting from active protection against the weather and riding errors. The Africa Twin Adventure Sports 2024, more powerful and more touring than ever, is a force to be reckoned with for long-distance travel. It has abandoned a part of its adventurous soul to become a luxurious and technological raid machine. Is it a good choice? For those seeking a versatile, reliable, and extremely well-equipped travel companion, the answer is often positive. For the dirt purist who wants a light and simple motorcycle, he will look towards the standard model, or towards other brands. Honda, with this machine, is not making a compromise, it is making a strategic choice, and it is quite convincing.
