Overview
We’ve been waiting for it since the arrival of the first liquid-cooled V-twin, and here it is, the true brute. The 2010 Harley-Davidson VRSCF V-Rod Muscle is not a simple evolution; it's a declaration of war against Milwaukee’s classic aesthetic norms. Forget curves, make way for sharp edges. With its wide 240 mm rear tire mounted on an 18-inch rim, its rectangular tank, and its gaping intake vents, this custom fully embraces its name. It seems to have come straight out of a post-apocalyptic tuning shop, ready to devour the asphalt.

Behind this intimidating mask lies cutting-edge mechanics, a direct legacy from competition. The 60° V-twin engine, developed with Porsche, has its displacement increased to 1250 cm3. The 123 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque are figures that stand out in the Harley catalog, traditionally more focused on low-end Newton-meters. The beast is heavy, let's admit it, weighing in at 307 kg when ready to ride, but it delivers a dry and linear punch that propels this long wheelbase with surprising determination. The five-speed gearbox and belt drive channel this energy, while the standard ABS and anti-hop clutch attempt to civilize the whole thing.
But don't be fooled, the V-Rod Muscle is not a relaxed motorcycle. The riding position, with the forward-mounted footpegs and relatively short handlebar, clamps you to the tank. During acceleration, all your weight shifts onto your arms, a unique sensation for a cruiser. The 105 mm ground clearance quickly reveals its limits in tight turns, and the steering requires a certain commitment. It's not a machine for leisurely Sunday rides; it's a dragster barely disguised for the road, designed for straight lines and the looks it attracts.
Faced with competitors like the Yamaha VMax of the time, which was wilder and more powerful, or more conventional Japanese cruisers, the Muscle plays a unique part. It bets everything on a radical style and a high-performance engine, sometimes at the expense of comfort and maneuverability in the city. The price, around 19,000 euros at the time, made it a rather exclusive object of desire. Its audience? Riders looking for a cruiser that breaks the mold, that embraces an industrial and raw aesthetic, and that offers rare propulsion sensations in this category.
The Harley-Davidson V-Rod Muscle remains an oddity in the history of the brand. It proved that Harley could innovate technically and stylistically, creating a machine with a strong character, far from clichés. It wasn't a motorcycle designed to please everyone, and that was precisely what made its charm. An intense experience, reserved for initiates who know how to tame its asphalt-leopard temperament.
