Overview
It's getting heated up among the Low Riders. It seems that Euro5+ regulations may have ruffled their feathers. The engine takes offense and changes dimensions without altering its displacement. Still badged 117, it benefits from a good series of upgrades to gain power. And quite a bit: 9 horsepower and 5 Nm more. Thanks to reworked cylinder heads, a high-performance SE8-511 camshaft, improved cooling, a more direct intake, and reshaped exhaust systems, the M8 now spits out 114 horsepower and 17.6 kg-m. A real threat, ready to throw you back under every acceleration – which can continue even higher, the maximum engine speed having been increased by 200 rpm.
Be daring and twist the throttle! The Low Rider ST will respond in several ways. Because it is enriched with three Riding Modes. The most virulent, called "Sport High Output," releases all the expression of mid-range torque and offers a power never before seen on a Harley cruiser. The "Road" Mode tames the throttle response and soothes the torque curve. As for the "Rain" Mode, it reduces torque and calms the throttle. It’s when digging into the electronic equipment that one discovers the arrival of traction control and an angle-sensitive ABS, an engine drag torque management system, and a tire pressure monitoring module. Cruise control was already present.
The parent company also focused on redesigning the handlebar controls, adding a USB-C port, installing an adjustable brake lever, revising the suspension, using LEDs for all lighting, and installing a much more complete instrument panel. Without betraying the raison d'être of the ST, which aims to be more lively and distinctive than a simple extension of the Low Rider S.
Okay, some will say that all Harleys are the same! Others, more curious, or even specialists in American culture, will argue that the Harley universe is populated by a myriad of types of machines. Call them customs, cruisers, bobbers, choppers, tourers, fat asses, chicano style, power cruiser, bagger, and so on…
With the presence since 2022 of the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST, you will now have to add a new designation to your vocabulary: that of the club style!
What is this thing? Basically, the club style genre refers to a motorcycle – rather a custom, and especially a Harley – that aims to be practical, fast, and efficient in all circumstances. A machine capable of covering miles at any time, in all situations, and whatever the conditions. You have been warned!
If the club style genre was born forty years ago with the Dyna FXR at Harley, the name is more recent. The appellation club refers to the many biker clubs that don’t hesitate to cover miles in a group to meet up, and therefore to celebrate.
