Overview
When Ducati releases a name from its trophy case, it’s rarely just for show. Pikes Peak evokes victories etched into American asphalt, a wild race towards the clouds of Colorado where the Bolognese firm distinguished itself long before organizers closed the mountain to two-wheeled vehicles. The name carries weight, and the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak fully embraces it. After a noticeable absence in the 2021 model year, the saga resumes with this V4 that pushes the sporting logic of the Multistrada to a point where its positioning becomes frankly legitimate.

Let's start with what immediately strikes you: the bike doesn’t look like a trail bike. The color scheme is directly inspired by the MotoGP paddock, the monobrach returns after disappearing with the switch to the four-cylinder engine, and the racing numbers glued to the bodywork aren’t there for folklore. The ergonomics have been reworked in the same direction: the footpegs move back and up 10 mm, the handlebar drops 15 mm and narrows 18 mm, which tilts the rider triangle forward with a clear intention. You don’t settle onto this Pikes Peak like you would an S or a Rally, you moor yourself to it. The 840 mm high seat won’t be kind to shorter riders, but the target audience here isn’t the Sunday hiker.
The monocoque aluminum chassis retains an increased rake of 25.75 degrees and an extended wheelbase, which stabilizes the whole at high speed without weighing down the trajectories. The forged aluminum Marchesini rims save 2.7 kg compared to the V4 S and adopt a 17-inch mounting on both sides, compatible with 120/70 and 190/55 tires resolutely oriented towards sporty road use. The braking system comes directly from the Panigale V4: two 330 mm discs bitten by four-piston Brembo calipers at the front, a 265 mm two-piston disc behind. It is sized to accommodate the 170 horsepower that the 1,158 cm3 L-four cylinder releases at 10,500 rpm, with 124.5 Nm of torque available at 8,750 rpm. To answer the question many are asking about the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak horsepower, yes, it’s 12 units more than the twin 1260 of the previous generation, and the same as a reference superbike ten years ago.

Öhlins suspension has always been the exclusive domain of the Pikes Peak versions, but this generation takes a step forward by switching to active electronic Smart EC 2.0 management. The 48 mm inverted fork and the TTX36 shock absorber adapt in real time, which perfectly suits those who prefer not to take the adjustment wrench out between corners. Race mode makes its appearance in the riding list and allows for more liberal use of the limiter, with a recalibrated quickshifter to accept aggressive downshifts. The Bosch radar manages adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, cornering ABS and wheelie control have been refined, and the rest of the package retains the 6.5-inch TFT screen, navigation, the five riding modes, adaptive headlights and the bidirectional quickshifter. The Akrapovic exhaust system, standard, in titanium and carbon, helps to lighten the balance while opening up the sound.

The price remains, which merits attention. Displayed at 31,490 euros in its 2024 configuration, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is dangerously close to the entry-level Panigale V4. It’s the price of a niche bike built for a rider who knows exactly what he wants: the versatile capabilities of a maxi-trail with the behavior of a compact sportbike. Faced with a BMW S 1000 XR or a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, the proposition is different rather than superior. Ducati doesn’t seek to convince everyone. Those looking for a Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak used on the 2022 or 2023 model years will probably find a good deal, the secondary market still being sparsely supplied for this version. The others will pay the high price for a bike that keeps its promise: more sporty than a trail bike has the right to be.
