Overview
Do you remember the era when roadsters wanted to break everything? The early 2000s were a race for brute power, aggressive design, and Honda, with its CB 1100 SF X-Eleven, unleashed a fist from the cuff. Let's be honest, the first encounter with this behemoth is a shock. It exudes an aura of quiet strength, almost menacing, with its large nose and massive silhouette that don't seek finesse, but impact. The dashboard, a true piece of industrial design, summarizes the spirit: functional, technical, and totally uninhibited.

Under the 795 mm seat, it's the heart of a Blackbird that beats, but reworked for the cause. Engineers preferred muscle to frenzy, with 110.8 Nm of torque arriving forcefully at 7000 rpm, and a power of 136 horsepower that always seems available. The result is a propulsion of rare brutality, capable of propelling the 222 kilograms dry weight with a violence that would spin the rear wheel of more than one hypersportive of the time. The figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h swallowed in less than two and a half seconds. On a winding road, the perimeter aluminum frame and the 43 mm inverted fork ensure behavior of surgical precision. It’s heavy, but once launched, the machine leans with surprising neutrality. The braking, assisted by Dual-CBS, is a model of power and progressiveness.
But this power comes at a price, and not just the 10,288 euros of the time. In the city, the X-Eleven becomes a pachyderm. The turning radius is restrictive, the inertia is felt, and it takes a good pair of arms for maneuvering. It is clearly a machine for those who already have experience, who seek strong sensations on national roads more than agility in an urban environment. Honda was aiming for the ultimate roadster, but the public, perhaps cooled by its radical aesthetics and demanding character, did not follow. The 2002 model year, in fact, did not even set foot on French soil.
Today, the X-Eleven has become a collector's item, a fascinating UFO that recalls an era when excess was an end in itself. It wasn't perfect, far from it, but it embodied a philosophy in its purest form: the pursuit of brute performance, without embellishment or compromise. For the sporty touring rider seeking character and thrills, it remains a unique proposition, much more interesting and engaging than many aseptic modern roadsters. It was a gamble, perhaps a commercial failure, but certainly not a mistake.
