Overview

When Ducati brings back the Pikes Peak name, it’s not just slapping stickers around. The American race has long closed its roads to two-wheeled vehicles, but the myth remains intact, and Bologna wasn’t going to let it sleep in a drawer. After a generation skipped in 2021, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak returns in 2023 with a clear proposition: to offer the maxi-trail segment what a pure sportbike delivers on the track, while retaining just enough luggage to justify the word "road-going" somewhere in the specifications.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak

The first strong signal is the monobrach fork. The Multistrada abandoned it when switching to the V4, and purists were upset. The Pikes Peak recovers it, along with the accompanying forged aluminum Marchesini wheels, 17 inches on each side to accommodate sport-type tires rather than mixed tires. This change in geometry is not insignificant: combined with a wheelbase lengthened to 1,595 mm and a revised rake of 25.75 degrees, the motorcycle seeks stability at high speed more than agility in maneuvers. The ergonomics follow the same logic: the handlebar descends 15 mm, narrows 18 mm, and the footpegs retract and rise 10 mm. The rider is projected forward, in a posture that doesn’t mislead about intentions. It’s no longer a trail willing to play the sportbike; it’s a sportbike that still tolerates a few road compromises.

Under the aluminum monocoque frame, the 1,158 cc V4 develops 170 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 125 Nm at 8,750 rpm. For those wondering how many horsepower the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak has compared to the previous generation powered by the 1260 twin, the answer is twelve more, for a weight reduction of 4 kilos. The machine weighs 239 kg fully fueled, which remains substantial but is justified by the onboard electronic arsenal. The braking system comes directly from the Panigale V4: Brembo Stylema M50 monoblock four-piston calipers on 330 mm front discs, backed by a double-piston caliper at the rear. The announced top speed is 250 km/h, and no one should need that on the open road.

The Öhlins suspensions are fully active here with the Smart EC 2.0 system, a 48 mm inverted fork treated with TiN and a TTX36 shock absorber with electronic preload adjustment. This is a different choice from the older Pikes Peak models, which relied on manual Öhlins, lighter but less practical. Race mode makes its appearance in the list of riding profiles: it stiffens the throttle response and pushes back the intervention of the rev-limiter cutout. The recalibrated quickshifter allows downshifts even when over-revving, which confirms the assumed track orientation. Front and rear radar detection manages adaptive cruise control and blind spot alert, technology shared with BMW and a few KTM since 2021. The 6.5-inch TFT screen, hands-free system, adaptive cornering lights, and full LED lighting complete an equipment package that leaves nothing to chance.

Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak

What is the price of a Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak? With a displayed price of 31,490 euros in 2023, the question deserves to be taken seriously. At this price level, the Pikes Peak borders on the Panigale V4 S and positions itself well above a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R or a BMW R 1300 GS Trophy. The typical customer is neither a beginner nor a great traveler; he is an experienced rider who wants a tool capable of functioning on the track on weekends and of reaching the circuit on Monday morning, luggage fixed to the rear loop. The carbon front fender and the Akrapovic silencer as standard recall that Ducati Corse is not far away. For fans of Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak used models who are watching for the first depreciation, this 2023 generation retains a good resale value thanks to the relative rarity and the consistency of the proposition. A motorcycle carved from a single block of ambition.
