Overview

Although the top of the Multistrada family is now the RS model, Ducati hasn't abandoned the Pikes Peak. And rightly so. Its sportiness is more "homogeneous"—the RS has a more spirited temperament, with its Panigale engine. Rest assured, there's a serious engine in the V4 Granturismo.

No one would doubt that at the sight of the aggressive livery. Since 2011, this lineage has ostentatiously carried a racing-inspired paint scheme. The 2025-2026 version attempts a little more discretion for license plates but maintains a MotoGP trend. Ducati shines brightly; why deprive oneself?!

A Pikes Peak shows its mettle with its war paint and choice of alluring parts. Like its titanium and carbon Akrapovic exhaust, its small smoked bubble, the Ducati Corse logo placed on the beak, the V4 embroidered on the seat, its front fender and carbon fiber nose.

But what primarily attracts enthusiasts of the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak are the modifications to the chassis for a more sporty engagement. The trail aspect fades towards a "big hypermotard" approach with 17-inch wheels. And not just any wheels: Marchesini forged aluminum. Their design evolves towards a double-spoke 5-arm design. We particularly appreciate the rear, with that much-appreciated monobrach. An eternal nod to the 916. Only the most aggressive Multistradas are entitled to it.

The dimensions of the Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires are also much better suited to muscular riding, with 120/70 and 190/55 sizes. The rider is naturally invited to be more aggressive with a riding position reworked in that sense: the handlebar is lowered, narrower and less curved. The footpegs do what is necessary to give more ground clearance, with a higher and more rearward offset.

Suspensions are a key ingredient on the V4 Pikes Peak. While the S version prefers Marzocchi pilot systems, our hurried mountain climber chooses Öhlins; also pilot systems. The 48 mm inverted fork and the TTX 36 mono-shock are governed by the SMART EC 2.0 platform, reprogrammed to be more robust in sporty riding and paradoxically more comfortable in a touring rhythm. Another improvement is that it is now possible to choose your damping profile independently of the Riding Mode. Previously, the choice of an "engine character" conditioned the choice of suspensions. Now, the rider can select the Track, Dynamic, Comfort or Low Grip profile to their liking and mix it with any of the 5 Riding Modes (Sport / Touring / Urban / Wet / Race).

Heavily loaded with electronics, the MTS Pikes Peak now features engine braking management (EBC) with 3 levels of intervention, as well as a combined braking system—the front lever also acts on the rear caliper, with modulation managed by the onboard system. Let's take this opportunity to review the entire onboard equipment:

- DVO function with simulation of 70 sensors - Traction control (enhanced by DVO) - Wheelie control (DVO) - Cornering ABS (DVO) - Engine braking management - Power modes - Riding Modes - 6.5-inch TFT screen - GPS navigator - Keyless onboard system - Up&Down shifter - Adaptive cruise control - Hill hold control - Adaptive cornering lights - Retro-illuminated switches - Semi-active suspensions - Radar - Flashing DBL brake light in case of sudden braking - Daytime visual signature

The Pikes Peak is based as always on the V4 S model of the Multistrada. It therefore benefits from all the improvements of this second generation. An engine still as powerful (170 horsepower) but which requires a few more revs to reach all its watts - due to Euro5+; deactivation of rear cylinders extended to situations other than stopping to reduce consumption (by 6%); a more aggressive face; more efficient lighting; the addition of the Ducati Vehicle Observer (DVO) algorithm to give even more precision to the electronic assists; a new Wet Riding Mode; the addition of the "Forward Collision Warning" function to alert the rider of a possible frontal collision (thanks to the radar installed here as standard); a rear swingarm pivot raised by 1 mm; a rear brake disc enlarged by 15 mm (280 mm); and a repositioning of the luggage to improve passenger comfort.

Oh, about that radar… If we were to return to its added value. What is it for? So, to be warned that you are getting too close to a pinpin just in front (indication on the dashboard), that another has settled in the blind spot (small light in the mirrors), and to install an adaptive cruise control.

The Pikes Peak weighs 2 kilos less than the standard Multistrada V4. The gap increases to units from the V4 S. Displayed at 227 kilos, is it lighter than its predecessor? Difficult to say. Ducati weighed the previous version at 215 kg dry and 239 kg full. Now, the weight is displayed ready to ride but without fuel. Let's not quibble, it should be measured to a handful of pebbles.

It won’t be about the chassis. Ducati extends the very successful specifics of its very fast trail, with its aluminum monocoque frame, Swedish damping, powerful Brembo Stylema calipers and its large 330 mm discs.

The Pikes Peak V4 phase 2 subtly gains in style and efficiency while preserving its fundamentals. A true high-riding sportbike, not really sensible but is that conceived when one is interested in it?!

Race Mode

Electronics maximize engine and chassis performance, releasing the 170 hp of the V4 Granturismo engine and all the benefits of the Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension. The intervention of Traction Control and Wheelie Control is reduced to a minimum and Cornering ABS is set to level 2, allowing a controlled rear wheel lift to fully exploit the braking phase, even on the track. The flirt with the rev limiter occurs more gradually than on the Multistrada V4, in order to warn the rider in advance and allow more effective gear changes in the upper rev range. The shifter has a dedicated calibration that allows very aggressive downshifts, as well as the implementation of a High Power Mode accelerator-throttle link that is even more direct.

Sport Mode

In this riding mode, the bike delivers maximum power (170 hp) with a particularly responsive throttle response and a sporty suspension setting. The intervention of Traction Control and Wheelie Control is slightly more conservative compared to Race mode, while ABS is set to level 2, allowing a controlled rear wheel lift to maximize braking performance.

Touring Mode

In Touring mode, the throttle response and the power delivered by the V4 are smoother and more progressive. ABS is set to level 3, which gives the rider a real sense of security thanks to rear wheel lift detection, Cornering ABS functionality and optimization of the front/rear combined braking effect. The suspension setting ensures both support and comfort, limiting rider and passenger fatigue on long distances.

Urban Mode

In Urban mode, power is limited to a maximum of 115 hp and the suspension setting ensures good agility facing urban obstacles such as speed bumps and manhole covers. DTC and DWC are set to high levels for maximum safety in all possible road conditions, while ABS is set to level 3.

New Wet mode

The Wet mode is designed for riding on surfaces with low grip and in particular on wet ground. This mode limits maximum power to 115 hp with a particularly smooth throttle response (Low Power Mode). The preset level of electronic controls is set to provide maximum stability and optimal grip.
