When Bologna decides to resurrect a myth, it doesn't do it halfway. The 2016 Ducati Monster 1200 doesn't simply extend a lineage; it redefines it from the core. Exit the air-cooled twin that rumbled beneath the flanks of previous generations. In its place, the 1198’s 11° Testastretta 1198 cc engine, directly from the Superbike program, a powerplant whose DNA still bears the marks of the track. This four-stroke V2 increases from 100 horsepower on the 1100 version to 135 horsepower at 8750 rpm, with 118 Nm of torque available from 7250 rpm. It’s not a bore increase; it’s a heart transplant.

What immediately strikes you about the Ducati Monster 1200 is the radical rationality of the chassis. The steel trellis frame, a historic signature of the brand, no longer exists in its entirety, the engine now assuming the role of a structural element, exactly like the Superquadro on the Panigale. Three riding modes Urban, Touring, and Sport modify the throttle mapping, the level of intervention of the eight-level traction control, and the behavior of the ABS. In Urban, power is limited to 100 horsepower for less frantic daily use. In Sport, the 135 horsepower are unleashed without filters, with maximum throttle response. The TFT dashboard adapts its display according to the selected mode, switching from a minimalist city-oriented reading to a Superbike-style bar-type tachometer for committed sessions. It’s legible, consistent, and avoids navigating endless menus while loading the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires in 190/55-17.
