Overview
When Swiss watchmakers come calling at the Hinckley workshops, the result is something rather rare: a motorcycle you could almost display in the same cabinet as their timepieces. Breitling, founded in 1884, built its reputation around aviation and prestige watchmaking. Triumph has been building parallel twins long before certain Japanese manufacturers even existed. The pairing of the two in 2022 produces a Speed Twin 1200 made in exactly 270 units. That number is no coincidence: it is precisely the engine's firing interval in degrees — a technical nod that will mean something to those in the know.

The livery first, because that is what strikes you. This particular pastel blue calls back to the 1951 Thunderbird, the one Marlon Brando rode in "The Wild One." Whether you are a film buff or not, the shade is beautiful, understated, a world apart from the glossy blacks and garish reds found too often in this segment. Certain bodywork details are hand-painted, and Breitling logos are distributed across the machine with restraint: on the tank, on the engine cases, at the tip of the perforated leather saddle with contrast stitching. The twin-dial instrument cluster draws direct inspiration from the Top Time watch that accompanies the motorcycle in this collector's universe. It is coherent, it is refined, and it justifies part of the asking price.
Because €19,000 is a figure that demands consideration. A standard Speed Twin 1200 sells for roughly €4,000 less. The difference is accounted for by the rear Öhlins shock absorbers, which replace the stock units, and by all the bespoke hand-finishing work. On the road, the Öhlins deliver noticeably more precise damping through rapid transitions — a tangible gain for riders who push with commitment. The front end, with its 43 mm inverted fork, holds its own, and the radially mounted Brembo calipers bite into the 320 mm discs with the directness one expects from that Italian brand. At 216 kg fully fuelled, the Speed Twin remains manageable, and the 809 mm seat height remains accessible to a wide range of builds.
Mechanically, the 1,200 cc inline parallel twin produces 100 horsepower at 7,250 rpm and 111.8 Nm of torque at just 4,250 rpm. That torque, available low in the rev range, is the signature of this engine: no need to chase the redline to feel the motorcycle surge forward with conviction. The character is grand-touring roadster rather than pure sport, which the Metzeler Racetec RR tyres in 120/70-17 and 160/60-17 confirm. The stated top speed of 210 km/h remains theoretical for most uses, but it speaks to an engine with reserves in hand. Three riding modes, traction control, and ABS round out the onboard electronics without overloading the interface.
The real bonus of the package is the opportunity reserved for early owners to order a limited-edition Top Time watch, numbered to match their motorcycle, with the Triumph logo engraved on the dial. The Breitling chronograph adds around €5,000 to the bill. The complete set therefore approaches €24,000, which clearly defines the intended audience: the enthusiast of fine machinery who wants a collector's piece as much as a riding tool. This is not a machine for learning, nor a track weapon. It is a Speed Twin dressed for the gala, with just enough character beneath the jacket to justify actually taking it out on the road. Since the co-branded 865 Bonneville of another era, Triumph has clearly raised its level of ambition — and its prices along with it.
