Overview
When a Korean manufacturer decides to play in the 125cc sportbike arena, it takes nerve. Daelim has it, and the Roadsport R proves it at first glance. Under the carefully designed full fairing, you can barely guess the kinship with the Roadwin. This front end with its central air intake and slender headlights evokes something between a miniaturized CBR 600 RR and the old Derbi GPR Racing. It's no coincidence that young A1 license holders stop to look at it twice.

The chassis follows the lines of the in-house roadster: perimeter steel frame, 35mm telehydraulic fork with 130mm of travel, mono-shock. This lays the foundation. The concern is that the Roadsport R weighs 162 kg dry on the scale, a substantial figure for a 125cc sportbike, and the 280mm front single disc must manage all that weight. This is the machine’s weak point, clearly identifiable and frankly detrimental to a motorcycle that invites you to push. The suspension, on the other hand, has been upgraded compared to the Roadwin and proves much more convincing in use.
The engine breaks with what was expected. This 124cc single-cylinder shares no parts with the roadster. Double overhead camshafts, 4 valves, injection, liquid cooling, a compression ratio of 12:1 and a balance shaft: the technical specifications exude seriousness. The result is 15 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 11.8 Nm at 8,400 rpm. The engine is clearly high-revving, it shows little enthusiasm at the bottom of the range, but once spurred on, it keeps its promise. Exceeding 120 km/h with 162 kg to tow remains a performance that the figures alone do not predict.
The onboard equipment pleasantly surprises. Center stand, digital speedometer, tachometer, engine temperature display, fuel gauge in segments, clock, trip computer, aluminum footrests, O-ring chain. In this segment, some competitors charge these features as options. The aerodynamic protection is serious, which changes life on the highway or in long straight lines, and considerably expands the daily usage profile.

Facing the Honda CBR 125 R, Daelim plays the card of a more generous size and comprehensive equipment. It is more expensive, certainly, but the comparison holds. Against the Yamaha YZF-R, the price difference reverses significantly in favor of the Korean for comparable performance. The Roadsport R targets young riders who want a credible sportbike without sacrificing everyday comfort or emptying their wallet entirely. It mainly lacks braking that lives up to its dynamic ambitions to constitute a truly balanced package. It will have to build its reputation over time.
