Overview

The R3 is now able to distinguish itself a little more in the 300/400 segment. Rich and varied in models but still lacking recognition, this intermediate cylinder capacity needs to convince between discovering motorcycles (the 125s) and the desire for a first large displacement bike (CB 500, MT-07, SV 650, Z 650, 660 Trident, etc.).

Distinguish itself? How? With this special 60th anniversary color scheme. What? The Yamaha R3 has existed for 60 years? Not quite. It has been six decades since Yam has been competing in Grand Prix. With a 250 two-stroke twin, which produced a handful less horsepower than the R3’s current 321 cm3. It was at this time that the red and white color scheme of Yam’s GP bikes was established. To become the “Speed Block” and regularly return on the fairings to celebrate the manufacturer’s great moments.

The R3 World GP 60th Anniversary is a cocktail of innocence and sportiness. The taut lines naturally welcome the crimson squares and stripes. With their matte gold finish, the wheels seem to dream of the glory of race bikes. A yellow number plate continues the connection, then we arrive at the commemorative badge on the tank. Another subtle nod: the gold tuning forks on the manufacturer’s emblem.

After all these years, it is amusing to note that this motorcycle is also equipped with a twin. But the coincidence ends there. The engine delivers 42 hp at 10750 rpm. Enough to have fun without straying into provocation. The R3 is built on a “Diamond” steel tube frame where a 37 mm inverted fork (without adjustments) and a preload-adjustable shock absorber are anchored. A single brake disc per wheel, a correct weight of 169 kilos, finely exhilarating sensations and an undeniable vintage replica appeal. This WGP R3 can carve out a much more remarkable place in the clan.
