Overview
Remember the Tiger 1200 of the early days, and you’ll see a substantial motorcycle, a bit rough, which struggled to convince against BMW references. But with this generation, and notably this 2019 Tiger 1200 XCx, Triumph has clearly declared war. We no longer speak of a simple alternative, but of a serious challenger, armed for the fight.

The heart of the beast is this inline three-cylinder engine of 1215 cm³. With 141 horsepower at 9350 rpm and 122 Nm of torque, it brings a unique personality to the segment of large trail bikes. Less burly than a V-twin, less peaky than a four-cylinder, it offers remarkable progressiveness and elasticity, perfect for swallowing up kilometers without stress. Consumption is around 5L/100km, an honest performance for a machine of this size. But the real feat lies in the diet: Triumph managed to lighten the beast by several kilos, with a dry weight of 248 kg. On paper, the gap with a GS narrows dangerously.
Where the Tiger 1200 XCx scores points is in its standard equipment. The semi-active electronic WP suspensions are a luxury that transforms the ride, adapting in an instant to the road surface and riding style. Combined with Brembo braking and adjustable ABS, they offer a feeling of absolute safety and precision. The shaft drive, clean and requiring little maintenance, is a significant argument for long-distance travelers. For around 19,000 euros at the time, it delivered a knockout blow to the competition in terms of equipment/price ratio. This is also what made the success of previous models like the Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx 2016 or 2017, laying the foundations for this maturity.

But not everything is perfect. The seat height of 835 mm, even with the adjustments, can intimidate smaller riders. And despite the weight reduction efforts, it remains an imposing motorcycle in slow maneuvers, requiring a certain level of mastery. It is clearly not the most agile trail bike on twisty roads, preferring wide curves and endless straight lines.

So, who is this beast for? For the demanding globetrotter who travels thousands of kilometers on all types of roads, and who is looking for an alternative to the German single-cylinder with more sonic character and perhaps even more intuitive electronics. The Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx of this era has earned its stripes as a serious contender, combining the versatility of a large trail bike, the captivating character of a Triumph three-cylinder, and a first-class technological arsenal. It’s no longer a follower, it’s a motorcycle that sets its own pace.
