Overview
A motorcycle entirely in carbon fiber from Indian? Not quite! This kind of exception has existed before, at Ducati with the Panigale Superleggera 1299 and V4, or BMW with the HP4 Race, but it doesn't apply to this American roadster. For this FTR, things are different. It’s not full carbon, although it does incorporate quite a few parts made from this material, but has partnered with 100% - an American off-road equipment company.
This partnership has a strong influence on the styling of this 1200 FTR. It features the 100% logo on its fuel tank, as well as its color scheme with a deep blue as the dominant color and red accents to liven things up. To make it even more striking, the American has had the good idea to paint its tubular frame white.
What parts are made of carbon fiber? "Blue Candy" carbon fiber, please, because the material is dyed here. Well, the fuel tank, the front fender, the seat cowl, and the headlight fairing. A successful and invigorating addition. For the chain guard, the exhaust heat shield, and the side plates at the center of the V engine, the choice was made for a more traditional black carbon fiber.
The noble equipment of the FTR Carbon is also present here, including adjustable Öhlins elements in all directions, a double titanium Akrapovic silencer, and Brembo M4.32 brakes. This reminds us a bit of the older Monster S4Rs. Upon arrival, most of these components received a black treatment, which carries over to the 43mm inverted fork, the lateral damper spring, the exhausts, the rear frame, and the wheels. The gold finish of the fork tubes and the Swedish damper cylinder stands out even more. A festival of colors from this Indian. The bike also gains an engine guard, a seat with red stitching surrounded by a gangue of carbon fiber, and Gilles Tooling parts: handlebar ends, oil and radiator caps. Plus a little bonus; each buyer of an FTR x 100% R Carbon will receive a pair of sunglasses from the new Indian Motorcycles x 100% collection.
The engine remains the 123 horsepower and 12.2 mkg twin from the entire FTR range. The electronics are also identical, with the beautiful 4-inch color TFT circular screen, Bluetooth for pairing your smartphone or helmet audio, a USB port, the 3 Riding Modes (Sport – Standard – Rain), traction and stability controls, cornering ABS, cruise control, and anti-wheelie.
This special and limited edition is priced at €2000 more than the FTR Carbon it replaces, and 400 units will be available. The serial number will be inscribed on the central console. Indian reserves 150 for the North American market; there are therefore 250 remaining for the 192 remaining countries - to be nuanced, the brand is not present everywhere, although the parent company Polaris is established in more than 130 countries.
