Overview
Imagine a machine capable of slicing through the Highland mist as easily as it devours the scorching asphalt of a coastal road. This is not a fantasy, but the promise carried by the Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx, an adventure touring motorcycle that, from its launch, sought to redefine the rules of the game. Beneath its skin lies a 1215 cm3 inline three-cylinder engine, a Triumph-engineered mechanical unit delivering 141 horsepower at 9300 rpm and 122 Nm of torque. These figures, on paper, place the beast directly in the sights of GS 1200s and other Multistradas, with a resolutely British philosophy.

What immediately strikes you is the way this engine delivers its power. Far from the explosive, low-down torque of V-twins, the triple offers phenomenal elasticity, a linear and addictive powerband that sounds like a full-volume melody. The overhead camshaft and 4-valve per cylinder distribution allow for optimal breathing, while the shaft drive, a luxury in this segment, brings absolute mechanical serenity and impeccable finish. Forget about greasy chains, make way for pure efficiency. For the demanding traveler who counts kilometers without counting mechanical concerns, this is a significant argument.
Yet, with a dry weight announced at 242 kg, the Tiger 1200 XCx is not a featherweight. It commands respect when maneuvering it in the parking lot or on a technical trail. The seat height of 835 mm, combined with this build, can intimidate smaller riders. But once in motion, the magic happens. The steel tubular trellis frame and the 48 mm inverted WP fork, combined with semi-active rear suspension, give it off-road stability that inspires admiration. Brembo monobloc brakes at the front, with their radial 4-piston calipers, offer exemplary bite and feel, even with all the cargo.

So, who rides this Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx? It clearly targets the accomplished traveler, for whom the road has no borders and who refuses compromises. Its 20-liter tank and average consumption of 4.9L/100 km offer comfortable autonomy to stray from the beaten path. Its price, around 19,000 euros at the time, positioned it as a direct competitor to German and Italian references. It doesn't seek to be the most radical on the track, nor the most agile in singletrack, but it excels in this very British art of grand touring, capable, with a certain elegance, of leaving the tarmac without a flicker. The Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx 2016 and Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx 2017 versions had already laid solid foundations, but this evolution brings maturity and electronic integration that make the difference. It is a machine with character, demanding but extraordinarily rewarding for those who know how to tame it.
