Overview
Do you remember a time when an adventure bike wasn't a rolling lounge packed with electronics, but a simple machine, ready to bite into the trail and swallow tarmac? Suzuki, with this V-Strom 800DE Djebel, does more than a nod; it attempts to resurrect a spirit. That of the legendary DR models badged Djebel, these understated and indestructible mounts that ran on pure adventure. The bet is bold, because grafting a 90s adventurer's soul onto a modern platform costing €12,498 is a balancing act.

Under the undeniably charming retro blue and white livery, more successful than the standard colors, beats the well-known heart of the 776 cm3 parallel twin. We find the 84 horsepower and 78.5 Nm of torque, a supple and robust engine that is doing well for the range. The real difference lies in the equipment dedicated to wandering. Suzuki has judiciously added side protections, a solid engine guard and, above all, a pair of Bridgestone Battlax Ax41 tires, much more aggressive on dirt than the original tires. The 220 mm ground clearance, made possible by the Showa suspension, retains all its meaning. However, purists beware: the Akrapovic exhaust present on the Italian version is gone, and the tank remains at 20 liters, far from the extensive reserves of the ancestors. It's an evocation, not a replica.
Faced with competitors such as the Yamaha Ténéré 700, more radical and lighter, or the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally, more technological, the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Djebel plays a different card. It relies on an intelligent compromise. Its steel frame, accessible engine, and rear switchable ABS make it a less intimidating adventurer than a Ténéré 700, more versatile than a BMW F 850 GS Adventure on asphalt. With its 230 kg fully fueled, it's not a featherweight, but its ergonomics and seat height of 855 mm make it an ally for medium to tall builds.
So, who is this machine for? For the globetrotter looking for character, a strong visual identity, without wanting to enter a rally-raid. It's the perfect bike for those who imagine more adventure than its use may allow, but who want their mount to have the stature and equipment to do so. It proves that you can inject a dose of nostalgia into a contemporary product without betraying it. The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Djebel is not a machine from the past, it is a modern one with a memory. And sometimes, that's what makes all the difference on the path of adventure.
