Overview
Do you remember the excitement surrounding the legendary V-twin of the TL 1000 S, an engine as brilliant as it was unmanageable in its early days? Suzuki finally managed to tame it, and it's this characterful mechanical heart that powers the SVS 1000 of 2005. Far from being a simple enlargement of the lively 650, this litre version is a more complex, more accomplished proposition, aimed at the demanding touring rider seeking a lively engine without the youthful excesses of the TLS.

At first glance, the machine asserts its angular style, far removed from the sensual curves of its little sister. The 80 cm seat lifts you into a high position, almost like a Ducati 900 SS of the time, which can be disconcerting. Once in the saddle, the modern but spartan dashboard does its job, even if the absence of a fuel gauge is a real issue. But all is forgotten at startup. This deep rumble and the typical pulsation of the V-twin are a promise of pure sensations. The 996 cm3 block delivers its 120 horsepower with remarkable generosity, especially in the mid-range where its 98 Nm of torque propels you effortlessly. Compared to a Honda VTR 1000 Firestorm, the Suzuki twin is more refined, less brutal, but it retains that stretch and soul that is sorely lacking in overly smooth four-cylinder engines.
On a winding road, the SVS 1000 reveals its qualities and its small flaws. The chassis, with its multi-tubular frame and 46 mm fork, is generally effective and precise. However, you sometimes feel a slight resistance from the steering damper when engaging, an attenuated but present TL signature. This does nothing to diminish the pleasure, especially when you discover the braking, exceptional bite for the brand, worthy of the best Kawasaki Z of the era. It’s a motorcycle that is ridden with torque, that plays with the gears without needing to twist the wrist. Its consumption, reasonable for a litre bike, and its 17-litre tank make it a credible road-trip companion, far from the image of a thirsty motorcycle.

So, who is she? Certainly not the untamable track beast that some were hoping for. The SVS 1000 is a sporty tourer with a distinct temperament, perfect for those seeking a charismatic engine, confident braking, and ergonomics adapted to long journeys, without the excesses of a pure sportbike. Its new price of 9499 euros at the time made it an interesting alternative. Today, the used market is the ideal hunting ground for finding this beauty. The question of the price of a used Suzuki SVS 1000 then arises, and it finds its answer in the excellent pleasure-reliability ratio offered by this Japanese motorcycle with a big heart. It’s a motorcycle that doesn’t dazzle you in five minutes, but seduces you for years.
