Overview
What separates a well-bred Italian naked from a true weapon of seduction? Two letters. RR. In 2016, MV Agusta decided to push the envelope on its Brutale 800, already remarkable in standard trim, to extract a sharper, more powerful, more exclusive variant. The 798 cc inline triple jumps from 125 to 140 horsepower at 13,100 rpm. Fifteen horses gained through serious intake work: doubled injectors, throttle bodies enlarged to 50 mm, redesigned airbox. Torque climbs to 86 Nm, but you have to chase it up high, at 10,100 rpm. The philosophy here is a motor that expresses itself in the revs, far from the fat low-down torque available off idle on European twins. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR doesn't do complacency. It demands revs, commitment, a throttle twisted with conviction. Those looking for a relaxed roadster for the daily commute would be better off eyeing a Street Triple or an MT-09.

The 2016 MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR spec sheet reveals a 13.3:1 compression ratio and an oversquare bore and stroke of 79 x 54.3 mm. This engine loves to rev — it's written into its geometry. At 168 kg dry, the power-to-weight ratio places this Italian machine at the top of the class against its direct competitors. The claimed top speed of 245 km/h confirms the ballistic potential of the beast. On the chassis side, MV keeps the proven Brutale standard recipe: a hybrid tubular steel trellis frame with aluminium side plates, a single-sided swingarm, and a short 1,380 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance of 160 mm and a seat perched at 810 mm sketch out a compact, eager machine built for cornering dynamism. The package works, and nobody disputes it.
What truly sets this RR version apart is the attention paid to the rolling chassis. The 43 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, fully aluminium, sheds a kilo compared to the base model's unit. Its outer tubes sport an anodised finish and DLC coating that are anything but cosmetic: the friction reduction improves sensitivity. Compression, rebound, preload — everything is adjustable. At the rear, a progressive Sachs monoshock offers the same adjustment possibilities. A steering damper rounds out the setup, welcome given how sharp the front end is. Braking duties fall to 320 mm floating discs clamped by Brembo four-piston radial calipers, with a latest-generation Bosch ABS capable of managing rear wheel lift under braking. For a test ride on the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR, you'd better have your forearms in shape.
The onboard electronics, managed by the MVICS platform, offer four engine maps, a bidirectional EAS 2.0 quickshifter, and eight-level adjustable traction control. It's generous, but be careful not to rely entirely on these aids. They channel the power — they don't replace the rider. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR is not a restricted-licence motorcycle; it's aimed at experienced riders capable of handling 140 horsepower in a wasp-waisted package. On the styling front, the redesigned five-spoke wheels and belly pan add an extra touch of character to an already magnetic silhouette. Listed at €13,890 in 2016, the MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR costs more than a Speed Triple or a KTM 1090R, but it plays on a different field: that of mechanical emotion and Italian prestige. On the used market, model years 2015 to 2022 trade at varying prices depending on maintenance history and mileage. An aftermarket exhaust, often the first investment owners make, frees up a few horses and above all unleashes a triple-cylinder howl that raises the hairs on your neck. The fact remains that MV Agusta's reliability and dealer network continue to divide opinion. That's the price you pay for riding Italian, exclusive, and uncompromising.
