Overview

Can you really travel far on an 853 cc twin-cylinder with a resolutely old-school philosophy? That's the bet the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel has been making since it first appeared, and the 2025 version intends to prove the recipe still works. The first neo-retro adventure motorcycle on the market, the V85 TT Travel is the great explorer of the family, designed to devour miles with luggage and a passenger, regardless of the season. Against the Triumph Tiger 900 GT, BMW F 900 GS Adventure, or Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, the Italian plays a unique card. That of character, shaft drive, and a 90-degree L-twin that pulses between your legs like nothing else in the segment.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel

The big news for this model year is hidden beneath the crankcases. The engine receives a variable valve timing system, a centrifugal technology that shifts the camshaft by 7 degrees beyond 6,500 rpm. The concrete result: 80 hp at 7,750 rpm, four horsepower more than before, and 83.4 Nm of torque with 90% already available from 3,500 rpm. For anyone who has ridden previous versions, the difference is felt in mid-range acceleration, where this kind of machine lives on a daily basis. We're still far from the 95 hp of a Tracer 9 GT, but the V-twin compensates with a smoothness and mechanical presence that Japanese triples simply cannot replicate. When you choose Mandello, it's also for that noble vibration that travels up through the handlebars.

On the touring equipment front, the V85 TT Travel doesn't mess around. Two side cases totaling 64.5 liters, heated grips and seat, a windscreen adjustable across five positions offering 50% more protection than the standard TT, and deflectors on the headlight brackets. Everything is designed for riding long distances without fatigue. The spec sheet confirms this touring temperament: a 23-liter tank, 243 kg wet weight, and an 830 mm seat height. It's an accessible machine, even for average-sized riders, one that doesn't require racer's thighs to put your feet down. The electronics have also progressed with a six-axis inertial measurement unit that makes the ABS and traction control lean-sensitive, five riding modes, a 5-inch TFT display, and the MIA platform for smartphone connectivity. We would have liked a rear radar or semi-active suspension, but Guzzi stands by its choice of technological restraint.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel

The chassis surprises no one who has read a Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel review before. Steel trellis frame, 41 mm inverted fork, offset rear monoshock, 170 mm of travel on each end. It's closer to a raised roadster than a true off-roader. The spoked wheels maintain the adventure look, but the 110/80-19 and 150/70-17 road-biased tires don't lie. The Brembo braking system, with dual 320 mm discs up front and a 260 mm disc at the rear, gets the job done without fanfare. And the shaft drive, a sacred tradition at Guzzi, remains a compelling argument for high-mileage riders who never want to grease a chain again. It's also the only adventure bike in the segment to offer one at this price point.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel

At €14,999 in 2025, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel sits at the upper end of the segment, with recommended prices starting at €12,089 for the V85 Strada and €13,059 for the base V85 TT. On the used market, 2020, 2021, or 2022 Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel models can now be found at attractive prices for those who don't need the variable valve timing. The fact remains that this 2025 edition targets a specific audience: the traveler who wants Italian character, an endearing engine, and long-distance comfort without falling into the electronic arms race of the big GTs. It's not trying to beat anyone on a comparison chart. It simply wants to be loved for what it is, and that is arguably its greatest strength.
