Overview
Can you still travel without the latest electronics, without semi-active suspension, without a rear radar? Moto Guzzi answers yes with the V85 TT Travel 2024, and does so with an almost militant conviction. The first neo-retro adventure motorcycle on the market, this Italian from Mandello del Lario doesn't try to compete with the big technology-laden GTs. It offers something else. A more direct, more mechanical travel philosophy, where the pleasure comes from the 90° L-twin rather than a 10-inch screen. Against the Triumph Tiger 900 GT, BMW F 900 GS Adventure, or Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, the Guzzi cultivates its difference with a poise that commands respect.

The 2024 model year nonetheless brings its share of new features, and significant ones at that. The 853 cc engine inherits a centrifugal-driven variable valve timing system. In practice, the camshaft shifts by 7° above 6,500 rpm, which unlocks more breath at the top end while preserving the characteristic smoothness at low revs. The result: 80 hp at 7,750 rpm, four horsepower more than before, and 83.4 Nm of torque, 90% of which is available from just 3,500 rpm. It's no speed demon — top speed caps out at 190 km/h — but the twin's ready availability makes every surge of acceleration a delight. The shaft drive, a house tradition that competitors in this segment abandoned long ago, transmits it all without any chain maintenance. For a touring rider, that's a compelling argument.
The Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel is the great explorer of the family, with everything needed to travel anywhere and anytime throughout the seasons, with luggage and a passenger. The pair of panniers totals 64.5 liters, the grips and seat are heated, and the redesigned windscreen gains 22% more surface area compared to the standard TT, offering 50% more protection. Add the lateral deflectors, the wider handguards, and you get a machine designed to devour the miles. The electronics have also progressed: the six-axis inertial measurement unit now makes the ABS and traction control lean-angle sensitive. The TFT dashboard grows from 4.3 to 5 inches, five riding modes are available, and cruise control completes the arsenal. For those looking for a Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel review, these are the points where the 2024 model year makes the difference over the 2020, 2021, or 2022 versions.

On the chassis side, no revolution. The tubular steel trellis frame houses a 41 mm inverted fork and a monoshock, both adjustable for preload and rebound, with 170 mm of travel. It's honest, but clearly road-oriented. The spoked wheels in 19/17 fitted with road-profile tires confirm the intent. The Brembo braking system — two 320 mm discs up front with four-piston radial calipers and a 260 mm disc at the rear — gets the job done without fanfare. The 243 kg wet weight is manageable thanks to an 830 mm seat height and a 23-liter tank that promises comfortable range. On the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel forum, opinions converge: this machine doesn't try to impress, it tries to accompany.

The recommended price of 14,999 euros for this 2024 edition places it in the upper-middle range of the segment. Prices including tax are 12,089 euros for the V85 Strada, 13,059 euros for the V85 TT, and 14,509 euros for the V85 TT Travel in its base version. It's an investment, especially against rivals better equipped in pure technology. But the Guzzi plays on a different field: that of character, proven mechanical reliability, and a transalpine charm that the Japanese and German competitors will never replicate. If you're looking for a used Moto Guzzi V85 TT Travel, the 2021 to 2025 model years remain safe bets, as the technical foundation changed little before the 2024 leap. For the touring rider who values a machine's soul over the length of its spec sheet, the V85 TT Travel remains a choice born of conviction.
