Overview

This F 850 GS has something particular about it. Its 'Connectivity' color TFT screen? The LED turn signals? The adjustable windscreen? The USB charger to the right of the dashboard? No, all F 850 GS models have these options as standard equipment since the 2020 model year. So, let’s face the evidence...

It’s its very particular color scheme, where the Deere yellow takes a decidedly eye-catching place. A birthday imprinted on the retina, as this motorcycle and its 850 Adventure and 750 GS siblings celebrate the 40 years of the Gelände Strasse. Specific logos on the tank, handguards dipped in canola, a two-tone seat with stitched inscription do the job of celebration. Additional equipment that all F 850 GS models have obtained. As with all "40 Years Edition" models, we find the PRO finish which includes all available packages - the Comfort package with the center stand, the Keyless Ride keyless system, heated grips and the tire pressure sensor - the Dynamic package containing the ESA Dynamic electronic suspension, the Up&Down quickshifter and the Pro Riding Modes - the Touring package including cruise control, luggage supports and GPS preparation - and the Connected package installing an alarm, teleservices and the intelligent emergency call system.

All of this in addition to ABS Pro and traction control DTC, as standard. In the Pro Riding Modes, the 'Dynamic' mode has been revised for more punch. We also find the DBC engine braking control. The left-hand handlebar control can receive buttons for pre-selecting up to four Riding Modes. To facilitate access, there is now an extra-low seat.

Of the three 40 Years GS Edition models, the F 850 GS is surely the one that best embodies the philosophy of the original 80 G/S. Real off-road capabilities, a manifest touring disposition (if we improve the protection) and always a twin-cylinder engine in the belly. Even if it’s not a Boxer. With 95 hp, it has what it takes to respond to all uses in its category.
