Overview
Naming a motorcycle after an alpine pass is a commitment to the promise of wide-open spaces. The Stelvio in PFF Rider Assistance Solution trim rises to this challenge with a clear ambition: to turn its back on the heavy-duty trail bikes of the previous generation and establish itself as an adventure tourer with a taut, almost athletic silhouette, which Mandello del Lario proudly asserts against the BMW R 1300 GS and other KTM 1290 Super Adventure models in the segment.

Beneath the laterally positioned cylinder heads, a visually immediately recognizable signature of a 90° V-twin, the 1042 cm3 liquid-cooled engine has nothing in common with the old 1200 8-valve block. 115 horsepower delivered at 8800 rpm, 104.9 Nm of torque available at 6750 rpm, with 82% of that torque already accessible from 3500 rpm: the mechanics demonstrate a suppleness that intelligently compensates for the 246 kg on the scales when fully fueled. The shaft drive, essential at Guzzi, ensures maintenance sobriety that long journeys appreciate. The 6-speed gearbox benefits from a standard quickshifter, and the steel trellis frame retains the structural character typical of the brand.
This 2024 model year is distinguished above all by the integration of the PFF system, for Piaggio Fast Forward. Two radar sensors, one at the front and one under the rear light, give the Stelvio an awareness of its surroundings that many competitors have been marketing for a few years already. FCW monitors what is happening in front and alerts the rider on the 5-inch TFT screen. BLIS scans the rear blind spot over 30 meters and signals threats with indicator lights in the mirrors. LCA completes the system during lane changes. An adaptive FCC cruise control, which modulates speed via engine braking according to traffic ahead, is available as an option. Note that unlike the BMW system capable of actively intervening in braking, that of Guzzi is limited to alerting and advising. An important nuance for those looking to understand what 17,299 euros actually buy.

The onboard electronics go far beyond radar. Five riding modes (Sport, Street, Turismo, Pioggia, Off-Road), three engine maps, four levels of traction control, two levels of cornering ABS, three levels of engine braking: the Stelvio PFF plays in the big leagues when it comes to dynamic personalization. Full LED lighting with cornering lights, a USB socket and cruise control are standard. Smartphone connection via the MIA platform, heated grips, TPMS and a center stand remain optional, which may be surprising for a motorcycle at this price compared to a GS that integrates more equipment from the start.

The 830 mm seat naturally filters the public: those of modest stature will have to compromise with this figure. The 120/70-19 front and 170/60-17 rear tires outline a road-oriented profile more than track. The 46 mm inverted fork with 170 mm of travel and the monoshock with swingarm ensure the rest. The announced top speed of 220 km/h sets the pace: we are on a road bike dressed for adventure, not on a serious all-terrain machine. Its ideal buyer is a great traveler who prefers passes to trails, mechanical elegance to brute force, and who wants to stand out from the battalions of GS without necessarily paying the price of an R 1300 GS Adventure. What the Stelvio PFF sells above all is a perspective on the motorcycle, and that, at Guzzi, is priceless.
