Overview
A hundred units worldwide, 4 minutes and 32 seconds to sell them all. The KTM RC 8C 890 hadn't even had time to cool its Brembo discs before the buyer list was already full. At 35,000 euros each, we're no longer talking about a motorcycle — we're talking about an entry ticket to a very exclusive club. And for that price, KTM isn't delivering a versatile sportbike to take out on Sunday back roads. No. This is a pure track tool, hand-assembled, designed for the curbing and nothing else.

Forget the old RC8, that big sportbike with the V-twin that never found its audience against the Japanese machines. Here, KTM changes philosophy. The 889 cc parallel twin, borrowed from the 890 Duke R, produces 128 horsepower and 101 Nm of torque. Modest figures compared to a Panigale V4 or a BMW M 1000 RR. Except the KTM RC 8C 890 2022's weight obliterates the entire segment: 140 kg dry. That's the weight of a 250 Grand Prix bike from fifteen years ago. With a power-to-weight ratio like that, the missing horses become a footnote. The engine wasn't deeply reworked, just optimized with a dedicated airbox, a stainless steel exhaust by Krämer, and a titanium Akrapovic silencer. Seven extra horsepower, with service parts compatible with the Duke R. Clever.
The chassis — that's where the Austrians went all in. Chrome-molybdenum steel trellis frame with the engine as a stressed member, cast aluminum swingarm, lightweight Dymag wheels. The 1,400 mm wheelbase and fork offset adjustable in two positions promise ferocious agility through tight sequences. The WP Apex Pro suspension comes from the department that supplies the RC16 MotoGP machine. A 43 mm inverted fork with no hydraulic end-stop, a length-adjustable rear shock to modify ride height, and separate high- and low-speed compression and rebound damping. On the braking side, Brembo Stylema calipers on 290 mm discs controlled by a 19 RCS Corsa Corta master cylinder with three bite-point settings. The AIM MXS 1.2 dashboard with integrated GPS records full telemetry. This is championship-level equipment, not dealership-floor kit.
The price of the KTM RC 8C 890 in France puts it in a class of its own. It doesn't compete against road-homologated hypersports, but against dedicated track builds like the Ohvale GP-2 or second-hand Moto2 machines. Its 16-liter tank, integrated into the subframe to centralize mass, offers enough range for long sessions. The quick-release carbon-Kevlar fairing, rearsets adjustable over 66 mm, clip-ons adjustable in height and width, the two-position seat — everything is designed to adapt the machine to the rider, not the other way around. It rolls out on Pirelli Diablo Superbike SC1 tires, ready to attack straight off the trailer.
The uncomfortable question remains: who is this machine really for? Not beginners, clearly. Not weekend track riders either, given the entry price. The RC 8C targets a handful of wealthy enthusiasts capable of exploiting a chassis of this caliber and willing to invest in a collector's item as much as a riding tool. The first 25 buyers even got a day at Jerez with Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio, personalized WP setup included. KTM sells tangible racing dreams, and the sales timer proves the formula works. The only frustration is wondering what this chassis could have done with an engine pushed to 150 horsepower.
