Overview

142 kilos dry, 135 horsepower, factory slicks and a KTM RC 8C 890 price tag flirting with 39,900 euros. This is the kind of spec sheet that clearly isn't aimed at the weekend rider. The 2023 vintage RC 8C is a pure track machine, developed in partnership with Krämer Motorcycles, a small German craftsman who knows the racetrack inside out. No road-legal headlight, no turn signals, no compromises. KTM is playing on very specific ground here — the exclusive sportbike produced in ultra-limited numbers, somewhere between a Moto2 prototype and an 890 Duke pushed to its absolute limits. The first version sold out in under five minutes. This second batch, 200 units, found buyers in two minutes and thirty-eight seconds. The message is crystal clear.

KTM RC 8C 890

Beneath the carbon fairing, the 889 cc parallel-twin has undergone a serious overhaul. Titanium valves and connecting rods, compression ratio bumped to 14:1, revised injection, titanium Akrapovic exhaust. The result is a gain of seven horsepower over the first RC 8C, bringing the total to 135 hp at 11,000 rpm. Seven more than this same engine produces in the 890 Duke R. Torque remains beefy at 98 Nm at 8,250 rpm, and the engine happily revs all the way to 12,000 rpm. On paper, these figures raise a smile when compared to the 200-plus horsepower of a Panigale V4 or an S1000RR. Except the KTM RC 8C 890's weight radically changes the equation. At 142 kg dry, it tips the scales fifty kilos less than its supersonic rivals. Through tight sequences, rapid direction changes and late braking, this power-to-weight ratio is devastating.

The chassis is a concentrated package of racing solutions. The chrome-molybdenum steel trellis frame uses the engine as a stressed member, and the steering head is adjustable by one degree either way. Everything is tuneable: fork rake, triple clamp offset, clip-on position, footpeg placement, and the neoprene seat. The WP Apex Pro suspension, developed specifically for competition, has been revised with softer settings than on the previous version. KTM wanted to give the rider more feedback — a choice that reflects genuine thinking about track-day use rather than a simple stiffness numbers race. The Brembo braking package with radially-mounted Stylema calipers, 19 RCS Corsa Corta master cylinder and 290 mm discs may seem modest compared to the Italian competition's 330 mm rotors. But on a machine this light, compact discs reduce the gyroscopic effect and free up handling. Forged aluminium Dymag wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Superbike slicks complete the picture.

The electronics remain deliberately simple for a machine of this calibre. Two engine maps, wet or dry, traction control with revised slip settings for 2023, engine braking management and a bidirectional quickshifter. The five-inch AIM MXS 1.2 Race dashboard serves as a genuine onboard telemetry system with data logging, lap timing, GPS speed and post-session analysis via Race Studio software. This is far from a gimmick — it's the tool championship riders use to shave off tenths.

The KTM RC 8C 890 price in France reaches 39,900 euros, placing it in a class of its own. It has no real equivalent in any major manufacturer's catalogue. Neither the Supersport 600s, too narrow in their rev range, nor the litre-class hypersports, too heavy to exploit their potential on technical circuits, play exactly the same game. This KTM is aimed at the demanding track rider — one who seeks a precision weapon rather than a ballistic missile, and who is willing to pay the price of unapologetic exclusivity.
