Overview
It's the story of a single-cylinder engine striving to deliver a dry and exhilarating feel to the 690 Enduro R. KTM was forced to put it on hold for a short time, but the machine is back with enough updates to ensure it maintains its aggressive character.
The 690 Enduro R gets a facelift for 2026. Designers have noticeably reworked the shoulders, more subtly the headlight surround, a small engine guard, discreetly the rear flanks, and somewhat the second half of the front mudguard. A breath of novelty accompanies a still-strong desire to tear up both curves and forest trails.
The "Katoche" takes advantage of this momentum to offer a new dashboard. A small, vertically-oriented 4.2-inch TFT color display, borrowed from its smaller 125 and 390 siblings. Modern, tech-savvy, and cute, this screen informs you of the essentials while allowing you to connect a smartphone (with music management, call handling, and turn-by-turn navigation). A USB-C port and new switches are also added to the mix.
Because the big enduro from Mattighofen is indeed (and always) there to play on all terrains. Especially with its large 692.7 cm3 single-cylinder engine. Even more aggressive than before! The manufacturer has adapted it to Euro5+, revised the oil circulation system, reworked the clutch and alternator casings, modified many components... and significantly increased the power. The engine now produces 79 horsepower! That's 5 units more than the previous version and a power output worthy of a race engine. Confident, KTM announces an extended maintenance interval of 10,000 to 15,000 km. Impressive for this type of mechanicals.
It loses a tiny bit of torque (73 Nm instead of 73.5 Nm) but it’s negligible. With all this horsepower, the machine will be formidable on many terrains and devastating in off-road conditions. Especially since the 690 Enduro R remains a very lightweight machine compared to a trail bike. Just 152 kg before adding fuel – a weight gain of 3 kg, largely compensated for by the increase in watts. This remains obviously more physical than a pure enduro like the EXC-F models, but the 690 can boast a very different level of versatility.
The 690 Enduro R 2026 revises its suspension for a bit more comfort. It retains the large 48 mm WP X-Plor inverted fork, as well as the X-plor monoshock anchored to the steel trellis frame. Large suspension travel, a generous ground clearance of 265 mm, and a good dose of knobs on the tires encourage you to master the greenery and gravel.
Electronics rely on its IMU to optimize traction control and cornering ABS; both are switchable. In the same area, there's also the quickshifter, the MSR engine slip regulation, and two riding modes, Street and Offroad, complemented optionally by the Rally mode. In 2026, the latter receives the new Dynamic Slip Adjust function, allowing automatic balancing of wheel slip.
An Enduro 690 is also a motorcycle that can be adapted in many ways:
Its 13.5-liter tank allows for long day trips; if you have the stamina. Let's not forget that the motorcycle is equipped with an anti-dribble clutch, Brembo brakes with a 320 mm disc at the front gripped by a 2-piston caliper and a 240 mm disc at the rear with a piston, a tank at the rear (also serving as a subframe) and a passenger seat... relatively speaking – its footpegs are optional.
A formidable motorcycle, it is also demanding. The seat height is more than considerable with 935 mm, the doctrine is sporty almost constantly and the price also requires commitment. But with this Enduro 690 R in hand, you can transform yourself into a lumberjack or a rally special ogre.
