Overview
The problem is this rock, right in the middle of the path. On either side, large rotten roots also pose a problem for passage. So, either it rubs, or the rim ends up on the ground. It’s when you reach certain limits that questions arise... or that models begin to evolve.
To overcome this kind of obstacle, the 700 Ténéré had an idea: to become more "Extreme" by borrowing the suspensions from its "World Raid" configuration. A small transplant that doesn't seem like much but adds 20 mm of travel on each side. Consequently, with 23 cm of travel at the fork and 22 cm on the shock absorber side, the rider finds themselves with more cards in their hand.
Logically, ground clearance increases in the same proportions. Between the ground and the skid plate, the space stretches from 240 mm to 260 mm. OK, only 2 cm more on paper. But on the ground, it takes little to change the approach and/or the clearing of an obstacle.
The suspensions gain in height and preserve their adjustment possibilities. Kayaba (KYB) offers adjustment of preload, rebound and compression. The shock absorber receives the same treatment. Off-road enthusiasts who like to push their limits can season their suspension to suit the terrain.
Since its 73 horsepower CP2 engine, the 700 Ténéré offers playful and alert vitality. Everyone will find this behavior on the Extreme; as on all other Ténéré models. The five versions of the family (Ténéré standard - Ténéré 700 Rally - Ténéré 700 Extreme - Ténéré 700 Explore – Ténéré 700 World Raid) are all powered by the same twin-cylinder engine.
The T7 also features reduced electronics, a Dakar-esque look, a 5-inch TFT screen, a steel double cradle frame and rims in 21 – 90/90 and 18 150/70. However...
The Extreme Edition enhances all of this a bit, especially for taunting trails. By adding a large fender in the style of a 660 XT, Yam shows a much more enduro/cross stance. The design is completely changed. Yamaha also adds a radiator protection grille, larger titanium footrests, a chain guide and a flatter seat profile. Note that this seat has been padded by 20 m. This announces more comfort; and to have long legs or a good technique to climb the gazelle. Between the raised suspensions and the butt padding, the seat height reaches 910 mm. It’s high!
Much like the mountains bordering our borders... It seems to have the nerve to go and rub against them seriously; while the manufacturer also offers a more touring Explorer version. Two editions to flirt with the rocks: one to provoke them, the other to circle around them.
