Overview
Imagine yourself in the saddle of a motorcycle where the engine alone weighs as much as a whole 125. Kawasaki, with the 2005 VN 2000, didn’t simply build a cruiser; it erected a monument. Two liters and fifty-three cubic centimeters—that’s more than a liter per cylinder, a figure that still makes the competition tremble, even the biggest Screamin' Eagle Harleys. This 52° V-twin is a cathedral of metal, a block where every component seems forged for eternity: a crankshaft weighing like a dog, pistons over 500 grams. The announced power, 103 horsepower, may seem modest in relation to the displacement, but in the custom world, it’s a respectable force. The objective here isn’t racing, but the delivery of an abyssal torque of 176.5 Nm, available from 3200 rpm. This engine doesn’t scream, it roars with authority.

In use, this mechanics reveals an unsuspected politeness. Injection and liquid cooling allow for a docility at low revs that contradicts its appearance of a brute. But twist the throttle, and the monster awakens. What a surge! What a low-end punch! The torque rips the arms without warning, and the motorcycle advances with the authority of a locomotive, whatever the gear of its five-speed transmission. The final transmission by belt ensures mechanical discretion, but the sensation is quite different: you pilot a force of nature. Maintaining a sustained pace quickly becomes a trial, because you are installed on a custom, not a sportbike. The maximum speed of 200 km/h is more of a theoretical indication than a practical objective.
Because the chassis participates in this excess. A wheelbase of 1735 mm is the distance of a limousine. The motorcycle measures more than two meters fifty in length, carries a 200-section rear tire and displays a wet weight of 373 kg. Maneuvering this giant requires constant anticipation. Turning in a pocket handkerchief is a mission impossible, and you must anticipate every turn with a wide curve. But once launched, the balance is remarkable. The 49 mm fork and the two lateral shock absorbers manage the weight with a certain dignity. The braking, with its two 300 mm front discs, is effective and necessary. The seat, at 680 mm high, is firm and wide, perfect for securing the rider during titanic accelerations.
The VN 2000 doesn’t target the hurried racer or the agile urban rider. It targets the globetrotter who seeks the ultimate expression of raw power and physical presence. At 17299 euros at launch, it positioned itself as an exclusive proposition, a culmination. Its look, with this front end inspired by a Gatling machine gun and this profusion of chrome, is as intimidating as its engine. You will never go unnoticed. But don’t look for the liveliness of a roadster. With this Kawasaki, you enter a permanent power relationship, a majestic and powerful waltz where each acceleration is an event. It’s a motorcycle that is not measured against its competitors on usual criteria; it exists in its own category: that of giants.
