Overview

Imagine an American buffet on two wheels. That is what the Pursuit represents in the Indian lineup: a considered accumulation of everything a long-distance traveler could desire, stacked on a cast aluminum frame that carries it all with a certain dignity, despite tipping the scales at 425 kilograms fully loaded. That weight, significantly more than the 388 kilograms of a Harley-Davidson Road Glide Limited, deserves to be mentioned right from the outset. You don't choose this kind of machine without being fully aware of what you're getting into.

Indian 1830 Pursuit Limited / Dark Horse

The PowerPlus engine, a 60-degree V-twin displacing 1834cc, liquid-cooled, with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, produces 126 horsepower and, more importantly, 181.4 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm. That torque figure, available very early in the rev range, neatly summarizes the machine's philosophy: no need to wring the cylinders to make progress, everything happens smoothly and powerfully. Three engine maps — Rain, Standard, and Sport — allow the injection response to be tailored to conditions. Three modes that may seem limited compared to what a BMW R 1300 RT or a Honda Gold Wing offers, but they are more than sufficient for everyday touring use.

For 2025, Indian has grafted a rear radar onto the Pursuit. Blind spot detection, proximity warning, rear collision alert: the safety package now matches the level that European manufacturers have been offering for several years. Braking benefits from an assisted combined system and an automatic hill-hold function. The Fox rear suspension with electronically adjustable preload is managed via the 7-inch TFT screen, a central unit that integrates GPS, Apple CarPlay, a 200-watt audio system, radio, Bluetooth, and an intercom. The IMU inertial measurement unit oversees Cornering ABS and riding aids based on lean angle. Rear cylinder deactivation at a standstill limits heat buildup and fuel consumption in the city — a welcome detail when crossing a Parisian traffic jam in 35-degree heat. The seat and handgrips are heated, and the windshield is electrically adjustable. Very little is missing.

Indian 1830 Pursuit Limited / Dark Horse

The Pursuit comes in two trim levels at nearly identical prices of €35,290. The Limited goes all-in on chrome, polished components, and the classic look of an American tourer. The Dark Horse answers the same brief with an entirely blacked-out aesthetic: exhaust, handlebar, footpegs, engine covers — everything is dark. Two visual personalities for one and the same mechanical proposition. The substantial top case brings total storage capacity to 133 liters, with the option to easily remove the main section to transform the Pursuit into a more streamlined version, closer to a bagger than an ocean liner. The saddlebags and rear trunk accommodate luggage for two riders without compromise. The passenger backrest is wide, firm, and comfortable. The seat height is low at 672 mm, which eases handling despite the bike's overall size.

Indian 1830 Pursuit Limited / Dark Horse

Compared to Indian's own Roadmaster or the big Milwaukee Limiteds, the Pursuit occupies a coherent position: it targets the traveler who wants maximum wind protection, a complete technology package, and a modern engine, without sacrificing American aesthetics. It is not aimed at beginners or urban riders looking for a practical two-wheeler. It speaks to highway cruisers, couples planning multi-thousand-kilometer crossings, riders who want everything without shopping across multiple catalogs. At €35,290, it remains less expensive than a fully equipped Gold Wing, but the weight demands a real physical commitment the moment you leave smooth asphalt. The 43 mm inverted fork and radial four-piston Brembo calipers on 320 mm discs deliver dynamic precision that older American tourer architectures simply could not provide. The Pursuit has aged with purpose.
