Overview
Remember that era, around 2002, when people were searching for the perfect motorcycle, one that would swallow highways without fuss and know how to have fun in a mountain pass on a Sunday morning. The sport-GT category was a battlefield, and the Honda VFR 800, the undisputed queen for years, felt the hot breath of the Triumph Sprint ST on its neck. Honda therefore brought out the heavy artillery for this second generation of the RC46, and not just a coat of paint.

The first impact is visual. Farewell to the gentle curves, making way for a sharp, almost Italian style, which is not without recalling the Aprilia Futura of the time, but with better finishing. The mechanics are exposed, the V of the engine dictates its lines. But the real revolution is under the fairing. Honda grafts its V-TEC system, from the automotive world. The principle? Up to 6800 rpm, only two valves per cylinder work, promising flexibility and economy. Exceed that limit, and the four valves deploy to release the 106 horsepower. On paper, it's brilliant. On the road, the feeling is more mixed. The transition is so smooth that you miss it if you're not paying attention. The ear, however, is not mistaken: the famous whistle of the gear-train distribution has given way to the silence of a chain, before the V4 fully sings in the high revs. The "wow" effect isn't there, but the efficiency is.
Because that's really the heart of the matter. With 78.5 Nm of torque and a confirmed weight of 251 kg fully fueled, this VFR is not a dragster. Its strength lies in its incredible versatility and this feeling of unfailing robustness. The aluminum frame, the 43 mm fork and the monoshock form an assembly of rigidity and precision that inspires absolute confidence. Whether you are devouring a department or playing with the curves, the machine responds with the same neutrality and ease. The braking, with its two front discs of 296 mm, is powerful and progressive. The riding position, with a seat at 805 mm, remains a model of its kind: engaged without being punitive, allowing entire days in the saddle without pain.

So, who is she? She is the ultimate weapon of the demanding touring rider who refuses to compromise. The one who wants indestructible mechanics, real comfort and sporty manners without the drawbacks. She doesn't have the raw madness of an Aprilia RSV, nor the hardened character of a Ducati ST, but she offers an unparalleled level of achievement and serenity. Her flaw? Perhaps this very perfection, which may seem aseptic to riders seeking raw thrills. But after all, traveling 100,000 kilometers "having a laugh," as they used to say, has always been the superpower of the VFR. This 2002 version, with its V-TEC and new look, has only polished this diamond that was already almost perfect.
